#37Here is what I think about the U.S.A. and all it has to offer:
I have a beautiful family (wife & kids), very nice home in a coastal area of Orange County, fairly successful career, my kids go to great schools, I have a spectacular PPO health plan, wife stays home with my kids and is so appreciative about it she takes care of her man, and I jog on the beach 5 days a week.
Big "thank you" to the Untied States of America for providing me with the opportunities to live a happy and enjoyable life.
For those not willing to work hard for what they want............and choose instead to bitch, whine, moan, complain, and blame others.......look in the mirror and you'll see who's responsible for your successes & failures.Comment -

#38The mistake I see you continuously make WW is that you do not understand people who work hard for what they want, provide themselves with the opportunities to live a happy and enjoyable life.
Freedom can only be provided for you by you.
Many do not understand how that works, because they have been unknowingly enslaved their entire lives.Comment -

i have read that a lot in this thread, that us americans aren't thankful enough for all we have been provided.
provided by the government? don't make me laugh. all they have "provided" me with is endless taxes and regulations.
MY PARENTS provided me with life, shelter, food, etc.
swingingjohnson, you can tell by my name where i'm from. the country i want us patterned after is the u.s. before gerald ford and every president since handed the keys to israel. where i didn't have to watch my kids get groped just to step on an airplane. yes wars have always been fought for money, and we have always sent off our youth to kill and be killed, but those wars never lasted forever and at least had a point.Comment -

That's what a real man does.....sets a good example for his children. This has nothing to do with finances or social status. Its simply a matter of doing the right thing, and helping them develop character.Comment -

i agree with this wholeheartedly, opie. the sad thing at times, though, is that we think everyone is born with the same opportunities that we were. i think if you are born dirt poor or in the ghetto and almost everyone around you lacks character it's a lot tougher to see the way out. i have had acquaintances that said their white teenage kids come home crying wishing they were black because of the racism issues around here.Comment -

What's the value of the peso?
I hear the educational standard in Zimbabwe is marvelous.
The justice system in Iran is terrific.
Foreign policy in North Korea is dynamite.
Just because things could be better, doesn't mean things are terrible. Have we made mistakes, of course! But you seem determined to throw the baby out with the bath water. I don't know where you live "cant call it" but please tell me so I may know of the utopia of which you speak.Comment -

So you often compare apples and oranges?
" I hear the educational standard in Zimbabwe is marvelous"
So our education system is acceptable because theirs in nearly non-existent?
I pity you fool.
It doesn't take much to satisfy people that want to go nowhere.
They are happy just the way they are and always will be, because their safety lies inside the box.
No need to better yourself when you can just compare yourself the something lesser to make you feel warm inside.
Comparing our systems to other countries may make it sound all nice and sweet, but the reality is its all withering away.Comment -

What made you believe I want to go nowhere? Because I fundamentally disagree with your argument? That's a bit short-sighted, is it not? I have gone farther than i ever dreamed and I realize my success is predicated on me as an individual but I am fortunate to live in a country where I have the opportunity to fulfill my dreams and not be shackled by the manacles of intolerance and tyranny. Are we perfect? Far from it but we strive to get better and sometimes we fail.
Please expound upon living "inside the box" and give me an example of living outside of the box. And the only reason I choose to shine a light upon the stark dichotomy of our standard of living and those of other countries is because you continue to curse the darkness without any inclination or desire of stepping into the light.Comment -

#54"we must be vigilant to make sure our freedoms are not eroded by America becoming a Nanny State"
that is what some of us are trying to do. but when we point out that the patriot act, wiretaps, airport body scanners, etc etc are unconstitutional and illegal, many people don't seem to care.
i'm not sure what "fundamental freedom" you think that you have but it's an illusion. freedom of speech? how many times did they allow sibel edmonds to speak? freedom of the press? as long as you report only the stuff the ap/rockefeller says is ok. freedom of religion? as long as you're not a muslim.
the most fundamental freedom of any society is freedom of movement. if i can't take an airplane trip without a full background check and cavity search then i don't have freedom.Comment -

There are legal and illegal wiretaps. If Muslim extremists did not hijack and crash two planes into the twin towers, we would not have to be subjected to body scans, remove our shoes and be generally inconvenienced. If we didn't take these precautions I assure you we would have already experienced another attack. They are not illegal and their constitutionality has been argued and debated in the Supreme Court. I will take a little inconvenience any day compared to losing my life or my compatriot's life in another attack. The rules have changed thanks to Muslim assassin's with no respect for life.
As far as freedom of the press, if you feel as though you've been muzzled then speak out. Sibel Edmonds was denied speech? I will take your word for it but I promise you, you can cite numerous examples, thousands even, of intolerance, bigotry, hatred and oppression in the United States. It's a big country and bad things happen. But you want to posture like this is the norm rather than the exception and you're wrong.
Cavity search? Really? Once again you cite the extreme examples to make your case. And you dare say Muslim's don't have freedom of religion?! How many states would even consider a mosque on the very site of the 911 tragedies? It's a joke and you can bet your turban that there would be a celebration all over the Muslim world if they get their way. Perhaps it's wrong that I don't want a mosque there but it feels wrong and it's even more outrageous that the Muslim community would collectively trumpet this cause when they fall so silent in the wake of tragedy.
You continue to try and make a case based on the exceptions and not the rules. It's par for the course with you guys. You think because we defend our flag and our country that we believe it is perfect. It is not but there's no place I'd rather live.Comment -

Yes, says a lot that they used their new found leverage after the dopping of a bomb to institute international policy creating an unfair playing field.
I wonder what would have happened if the US entered the war first, had to deal with the German and Russian armies.... Then after a few years had the Brits show up, just as Russia was about to join forces against Germany????
Hmmm, interesting thought there.Comment -

The USA was too busy selling arms to the rest of the world to bother with the war. The only reason you came out as a power was you didn't get involved while the rest of the world was spending fortunes fighting the Nazi's.Comment -
