What exactly do you mean by "why did it work" for poker.

Why did what work? PokerStars and FullTilt are still operating today. THEY made the choice to pull out of the US Market.

If PS and FT were extremely ballsy they might NOT have pulled out of the US market, either ignoring the indictment, or attempting to fight it on the grounds poker is a skill game. Instead of this they capitulated and decided they would be happy just trucking along sans their USA players, for now.

B/c the poker thing fell in their lap (read up on it) and they had a little inside info to do what they already did. They're not going to put huge manpower into this, there isn't a public outcry for it. And they wont' regulate sportsbetting online in the next 5-10 years, unlike teh pokerz

Why does the US gov't do all sorts of stupid shit?

The poker companies believed what they were doing wasn't illegal and that they were different from sports. The US gov't has been after cris/bookmaker in one way or another for decades, they've had past owners jailed, etc, they keep going. They know they aren't operating a legit US business, they aren't visiting the US ever.

My guess is because they wanted to seize the $$ to keep paying their salaries. Its a money grab.

back to your OP I would expect Tony to say something like that. Don't be reassured in any way by that. Be very careful about what you send offshore now and your exposure is high I would start withdrawing asap. Wait a while and see how this plays out. Maybe it is not a big deal but its too soon to tell. If they put an end to money transfer services i don't see how you can deposit and withdraw anymore

Here's the deal - for at least today we're going to not have poker. Best to lay low in situations like these. We dont' want all the "homeless" players from those sites to suddenly try to join us. Seems strange to not want business I know, but for now we want to be overly-cautious.
