Celtics vs. Lakers is 2 in Boston, 3 in LA, 2 in Boston. Replace Boston with Detroit if the Pistons win.

If I were the Eastern champ I would hate it too. If the Celtics win the series will not make it back to Boston.

I think the 2-3-2 format is ridiculous and I do not understand why the NBA got rid of it for all series but the finals. No way should a series ever end with the team with home court advantage playing less games at home which is what happens if a series ends in 5.

The main reason the NBA got rid of it is the same reason you will be watching top notch basketball next week. 20+ years ago, the Lakers-Celtics would have to fly cross country with one days rest on the 2-2-1-1-1 format. It led to some bad basketball. For example, Lakers-Celtics game in LA would end near/after midnight on Friday night, and SUNDAY afternoon both team would be in another dog fight after spending SATURDAY traveling in the air. A bad situation indeed.
