Broken Bats---What's the deal?

Is it me or has there been a tenfold increase in broken bats this season in the MLB?

Its all the cork in them.

Some have blamed it on the switch to Maple but more than likely it has to do more with making the bats lighter (drier and thinner).

The balls are heavier and more compact and since the pitch speed and the swing speed are the same as previous years it results in more bat breakage percentagewise.
