I know people mention it through games when the breaks don't seem to be going their way, but do you honestly remember a specific game that you think was not on and up and up? I was a skeptic of the Balt/New England game this season in Baltimore.
Do you recall watching any games you honestly thought were fixed?

#3There are tons of games where the officiating is so horrible that it is hard to tell, plenty of games I have been screwed out of but was it because the refs had action or knew someone who did? hard to say..... I had a game that my play missed by half a point due to bad calls it was the HOU Rockets a few years ago and Donohue refed it so that would probably be the most likely game I actually got screwed on by some shady underworld stuffComment -

#4Super Bowl 37 (2002)
Tampa Bay Bucs vs. Oakland Raiders
Not nessiarly fixed but no way Raiders could beat thier former head coach. So in one sence, it could have been fixed by Jon Gruden. thefixwason.comOriginally posted by SBR_JohnAAO = good dude. Buying you a drink in Vegas buddy.Comment -

#12I don't think there is a game in any sport where the officiating can't be called into question for either side; you do this quite often, so I doubt there can be debate. There were 16 regular-season games where the officiating likely screwed the Steelers in some way or another - but, winning teams still win despite poor calls. The fact that the Steelers were a No. 6 seed and became the first team ever to defeat the top three seeded teams on the road in the playoffs (#3 Cincinnati, #1 Indianapolis, #2 Denver) makes some arguably questionable calls in the SB not really worthy of conversation ... except to give this to those who would whine about it:
Seemed worthy of conversation to many of those who analyze the games for a living. I would take your stance too if my team was the beneficiary of a ring predicated upon poor officiating.

#14I think most real sports enthusiasts, regardless of team preference, will agree that those who analyze games for a living are mostly buttheads who deserved to be muted, which I often do. And, as a member of the media, it is not above the profession to say or do anything to stir controversy.
And, while it may be your opinion that my team garnered a ring based on poor officiating, I would have trouble lending any credence to that opinion being that you already admitted to having not watched the game.
I did not watch the game, yet i know that Bettis is from Detroit. Credence that.Comment -

#16The Ky./Fl. game from earlier this decade will always come to mind... Fl. up by 23 with 7 sec. left in the game on the 49 yard line they throw a bomb to score a TD... The spread was 28 for the game...
Then how about the most OBVIOUS fixed game in history... The UNLV QB turned the ball over many times and fumbling in a wide open field sanario... It was go OBVIOUS that someone ran a truck into the stadium lights in the middle of the 4th Q and the lights went out and the game couldn't be finished so it was never "official".... This of course made all bets "no action"...
As far as the two Steeler Super Bowls... The first one I thought Neil threw the ball BEFORE his reciever made his cut and it looked clear to me that Neil thought his reciever was running an out but ran a square in instead... I think when the play was called the reciever was supposed to read how the corner was playing him to determine which way he will cut and the QB and WR were simply not on the same page... It happens.... The second one I thought was offensive pass interferance... The reciever DID extend his arms to push off although it wasn't that blantant.... The arguement that I hate is "you don't call that in the Super Bowl.." It's a rule and when the hell do you call it during a pre season game or powder puff..? It was offensive pass interferance and it was pretty clear... The other question was did Ben (the ball) break the plane of the goaline... That's a MUCH tougher call but I would say yes...

#19Fixed games are part of sports just as much as doping or spygate. The first time I watched a fixed games I was just a little kid. A rude awakening to the 'real' world, because kids trust adults. The fix was so obvious, everybody watching the game was outraged. The name of the ref: Christos Michas, who was later severely punished.
I don't have the time or interest to keep an updated record of fixes. But I've seen my fair share.Comment -

#23So let's see if we can sum this up. Any time my team/my wager loses, it's the result of poor or possibly shady officiating. Same goes for when a team I really hate wins. But when my team/my wager wins, it's just sour grapes by others to suggest a fix is in or that an ump's call played into it. Does that pretty much hit the nail on the head?
Just out of curiosity, how many people here have umpired or reffed a sporting event on the middle school/junior high level or above?Comment -

I once officiated a 3rd grade girls soccer game. I was the coach of one of the teams but no matter how much i cheated, i could not do enough to get my girls the W.

Anyway I have never officiated I have only played and coached... I do have several friends and a couple relatives that officiate... They officiate HS Varsity football/basketball... One of them who is my friend also bets on NFL and College...
Here is an interesting story... I thought it was hilarious when I heard it...
My one friend who bets and is a HS official for "sh*ts and giggles" would set a line for a game he is doing and he and another friend of mine would place small 10 dollar wagers on the game... The spread was 5 and the official had the favorite -5... He was up 7 and there was 5 seconds to go in the game... The dog had the ball and took a 3 pt. shot with 3 seconds to go... It was hilarious I remember him saying "When that ball left his hands dude the rotation looked good so I figured f*ck it that might go in and blew the whistle and called an offensive foul.. hahaha then the other team just dribbled it out.."
Man I thought that was a riot...and so did he... He couldn't stop laughing about it but he did it to prove to my other friend how much impact officials can have on the game much less the spread...
I forgot to add.... the 3 did end up going in that made it even more hilarious...
