Black people have more "fast twitch" muscles. So whites do better at sports that require power, like weightlifting, whereas black do better at 100m.

One reason might be that African-Americans finds it hard to get high paying jobs, so sports looks like their most probable way of making good money. Another reason is that (dependent on ancestry) African-American can have anatomical advantages in features of their bodies, stronger attachments between tendons and the skeleton for instance, and specifics around the joints that provides more leverage for the muscles.

Yeah I'm pretty sure a black person played hockey professionally or raced NASCAR once or qualified for the national swim team. The point of this thread is how come you don't see more people competing in these sports? I think it's because there is not that much money to be made playing volleyball or water polo and black kids chose to play sports that may give them a chance to become pros if they do well in HS and college.

yeah I was actually agreeing with you.... out of the over 100 people who swim for team USA only 1 is black.

I think black women do pretty good at volleyball, I know Cheryl Miller played, never really heard of many volleyball players but you see them on college games on tv.

The West Indies have produced some of the greatest cricketers ever. Research Viv Richards, Brian Lara, Gary Sobers and Malcolm Marshall. These guys were the very best of a bunch of amazing sportsmen.

Soccer had, has and always will have amazing black players.

Probably don't suck in terms of natural ability at all. But when soccer isn't among the top 5 sports in the country, it's natural that an athletic black person would dedicate more time to, and therefore reach an elite level in an American sport.

The tennis was an exaggeration by that poster. But Arthur Ashe was ranked world number one, and won Wimbledon, US Open and Australian Open. Other than that I can't recall any other elite black players.

On an interesting side note Yannick Noah (father of Joakim Noah of the Bulls) won the French Open and reached world number 3 in tennis.
