Robbie Knievel Jumps 24 Delivery Trucks at Kings Island
Robbie “Kaptain” Knievel successfully jumped over 24 delivery trucks Saturday night at the site of one of his father's most famous stunts, the Associated Press reported. It was his longest gap ever – almost 200 feet – at Kings Island amusement park, Manson, Ohio.
He made this jump in honor of his father, the legendary stunt man, Evel Knievel, who jumped 115 feet over 14 Greyhound busses in 1975 at Kings Island, in an event that was watched by more than half of the nation's television viewers. His father died last year at the age of 69.
“Hopefully I'll see you after the jump,” Knievel told the crowd before he climbed the start ramp, according to the AP.
“I can't believe it's been 30-some years since I've been here, doing wheelies with my father,” Knievel reminisced before his jump about his dad, according to the Middletown Journal.
He said he would need to be going 95 miles per hour at take off the 200-foot jump. He flew off the ramp and over 24 trucks in just a few seconds and after touching down at the tip of the landing ramp, he gave the crowd a thumbs-up, raced his bike back and forth and popped a wheelie, the AP noted.
More than 40,000 people came to the park to see Robbie Knievel performing in the longest gap he tried since 1998 over the Grand Canyon. That jump was one of his most famous successful jumps. Knievel, 46, is considering a future attempt at jumping the Snake River Canyon on the Snake River near Twin Falls, Idaho, a feat his father failed at in 1974. On March 18, 2007, Robbie jumped an assortment of military vehicles at the North Carolina Auto Expo in Raleigh, North Carolina.
