This is hypothetical, but say somebody did exceptionally well on matchbook, and built there balance to 100k ... Would Matchbook pay the full 100k out?

    Er, yes.

Any wins this hypothetical player cost Matchbook $0. They make their money from their commision, not beating players.

As far as I know, their "market makers" risk their own money, not MB's money. Even if MB had their own money at risk for market making, the stakes are trivial compared to what is bet later.

I do have one gripe about Matchbook though... Market makers are supposed to have their commissions waved. I had such an agreement where I'd get reimbursed my commissions for setting markets on some props. They never reimbursed me, despite our agreement and follow up emails I sent. It was a relatively minor amount (less than 1-2k), but still... You don't screw/ignore people you work with. As a result of that, I didn't bother doing any more market making with them.

I think it's unethical to handle your own disputes. Should have let Lakerfan make an inquiry to them for you.

        Justin,
I was always curious if they had a market maker type system like the securities business. Very interesting. I would be very interested in talking to you about this outside this thread.

I actually never bothered filing a dispute. But per my "special agreement" with SBR, I'm free to tell it like it is, regardless of whether they are an "A" book.

If Lakerfan or another mod felt like investigating this, it would be nice. But regardless of how it is resolved, they didn't meet their end of the agreement for many months.

I do understand this point. But I really wonder the level of temptation they have to take the 100k for themselves.

I often see betting limits as high as 50k on sides of big games on Matchbook, gotta believe that there are several huge accounts that trust Matchbook enough to keep 6 figures in there, also if Matchbook ever cheated a player out of a huge sum like that it would be the end of their site and I think they are fairly happy with getting 2% of every winning bet there, if you were up 100k at Matchbook you probably paid them 5-10k in commissions along the way (considering that not every bet you made was a winner, example win 5k pay 100 commission, lose 3k, then win 3k back pay another 60 commission, etc.)

Of course they'd pay and they'd be happy do do it. Heck, they wouldn't mind paying out one million dollars to somebody. Do you know how much in commissions MB would have made off of that person? And like everyone is saying, they didn't risk any of their own money.

these kind of questions are lowering the quality of the forum. Too bad you dont understand the concept of betting exchange.

I earlier complained about Matchbook's handling of my 2% commission rebates as a market maker.

I have been discussing this issue with Matchbook. We have had some good discussions, and in hind-site, I think I was too critical (and I regret making the earlier post). After reviewing in detail the emails between us, I think this was at worst just a lack of communication. I could have done more on my part to get the rebate - I bear some portion of the blame for not following up on a few issues. There was never any intent on their part to "screw" anyone (I used this word in my earlier post, but I cannot fairly characterize their dealings that way after seeing their perspective).

Matchbook is committed to their market makers. To that end, they are crediting me with all the agreed rebates, and (I quote them) "using the most generous assumptions" in settling the rebates for areas that were not clearly agreed to. I'll be discussing some ideas to make market making easier for us number guys. Based on our discussions, I would have no qualms about co-oping with them in the future.

Good to hear. I've never had anything but pleasant dealings with Matchbook and I was surprised to hear your original story.

Your money is very safe with exchanges. Have you ever heard of a payout dispute involving Matchbook, Betfair, or Tradesports? (not including TS contract interpretation in grey areas). Exchanges represent the purest form of bookmaking, providing only the platform and charging a fee for its use. I don't understand why more books don't switch to that format.
