It's not often this happens John, but I have to agree with you on that one. I couldn't even tell you anymore why I bother with him, except for the fact that I've become accustomed to winning in my life and I find it hard to accept that there are situations in life where you can commit no mistakes and yet still "lose." That's not to say that I feel bested by Raiders, but rather that I've never dealt with anyone possessing his peculiar blend of delusion and self-righteousness.

Anyhow, allow me to formally express my gratitude for your magnanimity in lifting my ban. As I've lost my taste for Gamelive and the other major forums are crumbling into shells of their former selves, I was surprised at how much I enjoyed my first day back. Things have been contentious between us for years now, and as I stare down the barrel of turning 30, it's becoming clear to me how silly it all was. Especially now that I have employees of my own, I realize how fragile the employer/employee relationship is and how unfair it is to judge a man by how his employees speak of him. I allowed myself to get caught up in opinions of you (and Dozer) that weren't necessarily my own, and I apologize for that. I still think you've said some awfully dumb/insensitive things, but then so have I, so hopefully we can move forward secure in the knowledge that nobody's perfect.

Of course it's easy to say/post things, much harder to live them. We both operate, by necessity, with a healthy dose of self-interest and pride, and only time can tell whether we can co-exist peacefully in the long term. I'm hoping that by getting my argument fix at Peep's and voicing my distaste for authority at EOG, that I can finally settle into just being another guy at SBR that likes to tally up more W's than L's at the end of the day.

Hey PuckOff, long time no see! You've got a good memory, but there's a little more to the story than that. I've known I was attracted to men since I was a teenager, and I started sleeping with men when I was 16, but for the first decade or so after that I saw myself as bisexual. Most of my sexual encounters were with men, but I would still date women in the hopes of finding one who was okay with my attraction to men and could allow me to lead a "good Catholic" life with kids and such. I found and courted three such women over those 10+ years, and the last one is the one you remember from my tales of woe.

She was the one with the district attorney father that threw the book at me then sued me civilly, and that sequence of events was so traumatic that it forced me to confront the vision I had for my life and why I even cared about being a good Catholic. After a lot of soul searching I had to realize that I really was just a gay man looking for a beard, and that it wasn't fair to me, the men I was sleeping with on the side, or the women I was trying to date. I had to accept that I really was a "flaming homo" on the inside and try to create a new vision for my life without the framework of religion or the imperative to procreate. That leads us to where I am today, still searching for Mr. Right and trying to explain to people that I wasn't misleading them when I said I was bisexual, just taking small steps towards becoming the man I now aspire to be.

I'm suspicious of you, but I indulge your request nonetheless. After a quick exchange of pleasantries you start whining about how your life is a mess, telling me how you're addicted to opiates and your girlfriend dumped you over it, you want to kill yourself sometimes and...wait for it...you've always liked me on the forums, just never knew how to convey it that's why you'd call me names.

Then the conversation gets weird and you start telling me your name, all kinds of personal details and start asking the same about me in return. I fed you a bunch of misinformation about me, and when I went back the next day to examine the info you gave me about yourself, I was astonished to find that it all checked out. I mean, seriously, you should've added mental retardation to your list of sufferings to be telling someone who didn't even like you all of this damning information.

Fast forward to six months later, when you're obviously off your meds or high again and behaving like an 8-year-old brat with ADHD. You come into SBR Chat and start insulting one of the best friends I have on the forums with a whole host of nasty comments, typing them as fast as you can to flood the chat and prevent anyone else from even using it. Then when I tell you to grow up and go get high, you start flooding the chat with a single word "f/*g" for over a minute. I PM'd all three Mods in the chat that night (Bobby, Shari and Illusion) and they said they weren't willing to get involved and so I figured I'd have to confront you myself.

I posted your full name in there, and it certainly got your attention. Once other chat members started Googling your name and posting every last detail of your pathetic existence, we finally got some satisfaction and you departed after a few final parting shots.

So really, Bateman, what did you expect to happen when you behave like such a puerile scumbag? You felt you weren't getting enough attention on the forum so you decided to take out your frustration on a group of innocent people just trying to discuss what to bet at halftime in chat. Worse yet, you were so stupid that you didn't even notice that in that crowd was a person in there you'd shared way too much with when you were out of your mind on drugs. You tried to take from us a place we all enjoy, and even bigger than that, you went after my friend, Fischnasty.

Trust me, I wish that any of those Mods had just done their job and saved me the trouble (and the ban) that resulted from my actions that night, but I don't regret them even now. Bateman, why is it you can never truly take responsibility for your own shortcomings and instead spend your time "attacking" the people who point them out? Sure, we've seen you apologize a dozen times to the forum for being an unstable halfwit who can't control his temper or his mouth, but all of them are shortly followed by a regression to your baseline of: attack, ignore, attack, ignore, meltdown. Perhaps if you used all the time you spend denying your problems to resolve them, you could truly mean what you say when you beg our forgiveness.

I wrote a pretty straight-forward narrative of how you ended up in this predicament, laying out all the mistakes you made and how they could be avoided in the future. Is there any chance you just use it to stop from setting all these landmines right in front of your feet? so this is what happened that fateful night?

the following day i received an email from bateman asking me to make a thread about his banning.

i took a moderate approach to the thread cuz no one would give me the facts of the situation.

it is interesting to see the whole story, glad i handled it as i did.

Did I take up for Bateman about this somehow? If so, I truly don't remember. It wouldn't have been in chat because all of you were banned after that, so maybe on the forum somewhere? Not sure. I can't imagine what I would've said as I've tried to stay as far away from that whole episode as much as possible, even when Bateman emailed me a post to make on his behalf. Which I didn't do, mind you.

I wasn't there to see the lead-up to it and too many others were getting involved in an attempt to make things better but in fact they only made it worse. My only stance about the whole thing was, and remains, that releasing personal info isn't right regardless of how aggravated one can make another person. For me personally however, that incident had a positive result as it helped to drill home why I need to be extremely careful about protecting my own privacy. I was a little too lax and naive there for awhile but fortunately I've smartened up with it all.
