Maybe. Phil has been in this position before with the Bulls in 93. His team was down 0-2 to the Knicks in the conference finals and went on to win 4 straight to advance to the finals.

The Mavs have also been in this position. They were up 2-0 against Wade's Heats in the Finals and were leading by 13 points with 3-4 minutes left in the game. Wade took over the game and the Heats went on the win 4 straight to capture the title.

Both teams were going home down 0-2 with oppurtunity to regain momentum before going on road to win only 1 road game

Lakers are unlucky to be down 0-2. How often does it happen that a team misses 14 straight 3 pt shots, and only hits the first late in the 4th quarter with the game already lost? That's just bad luck and has nothing to do with the Mavs defense. The teams are pretty evenly matched, but the series is over now. At 1-1 the Lakers would have been fine, but not at 0-2.
