How many Aces are there in the MLB?
A week ago I kicked off a discussion among MLBTR writers about how many true ace starting pitchers there are …

Saw this article.. thought it would bring good discussion. His list is..

    Adam Wainwright
    Roy Halladay
    Cole Hamels
    Roy Oswalt
    Cliff Lee
    C.C. Sabathia
    Dan Haren
    Jered Weaver
    Josh Johnson
    Justin Verlander
    Felix Hernandez
    Jon Lester
    David Price
    Tim Lincecum
    Chris Carpenter
    Clayton Kershaw
    Matt Cain
    Tommy Hanson

    borderline group:
    John Danks
    Yovani Gallardo
    Brett Anderson
    Ricky Romero
    Zack Greinke
    Ubaldo Jimenez
    Francisco Liriano
    Trevor Cahill

Aces to me are the very very best. I would cut that list down to just a couple.

        Adam Wainwright
        Roy Halladay
        Cole Hamels
        Roy Oswalt
        Cliff Lee
        C.C. Sabathia
        Dan Haren
        Jered Weaver
        Josh Johnson
        Justin Verlander
        Felix Hernandez
        Jon Lester
        David Price
        Tim Lincecum
        Chris Carpenter
        Clayton Kershaw
        Matt Cain
        Tommy Hanson

Well, the term "ace" would need to be defined first before making the list. Otherwise, it's just people's opinions.

i think an ace is a guy that you can count on to stop the bleeding. say a 4 game skid etc..

i completely agree with wainwright remaining on the list

timeout adam wainwright? i mean it depends on your term ace but

                    elite
                    josh johnson
                    tim lincecum
                    roy halladay
                    felix hernandez

this season weaver is obviously included thus far but i hesitate to put him with this group just yet. the rest of the list isnt over the hump to be elite. and that borderline list is pretty bad when compared to the elite. danks or johnson...come on not even close

That list is too long for "Aces." I agree, the word needs to be defined.
