When I was getting shoes at the mall when I was probably about 12 year old there was a guy that looked pretty young and absolutely jacked. He helped me out and I was talking to him and he said he played MLB baseball. I thought that was so cool and I didn't know why he was sort of embarassed to say that. I was asking him about his career but I had obviously never heard of him. Must not have been in the league too long but he did hit some home runs.

I assumed all players were millionares and wondered why in the hell he was working at foot locker. Not every guy that makes it to the majors has a penthouse in Miami. Most of these guys are dead broke 5 years after the league. More of these big NFL types end up being 10 dollars per hour bouncers at seedy night clubs.

My office hired a former NFL player last year. The economy ruined his business and had to do something. Great guy to be around.

                These guys have 0 skills.

Stand in front of a night club like a guerilla. Read off names from a list when the teacher is absent, sell shoes. Goes to show you that if these guys couldn't run they'd all be poor bastards until they try and rob the liquor store and end up at Penn state.

My buddy's brother told me stories about NHL'ers driving trucks afterwards. I guess that's a reasonable gig compared with other things. I took a few courses in univ on the economics of sport, etc-craziness.

A lot of these guys start businesses while they're still playing. It seems like a lot of NFL players open up laundromats and car washes, shit like that.

Freddie Mitchell was on that show "Millionaire Matchmaker" last year. I remember flipping thru the channels and see him, I was floored.
