when in the history of the NBA has anyone tried to miss a foul shot in that spot?

Exactly with that much time left and the fact the other team gets ball at half court (actually closer) after timeout you miss free throw on purpose up by 2 you might lose in regulation. Plus you ever seen someone miss a free throw on purpose half the time they over power and hit backboard and miss rim altogether.

I remember one case where a guy tried to miss but got it in, can't remember who it was or which game but it definitely happened!

Had $$ on Griz, wasn't paying a lot of attention to the game, but what I did see, Randolph was on fire. How many FTs did he make at the end?
Spurs were lucky, plain and simple. I think the fix was for the Spurs, but they could've easily blown it at the end and lost.

thats one way to look at it, but not the most efficient way, since they would only be up 2 and spurs had a t.o. like someone already stated...missing the ft on purpose would be stupid...the true idiot is lionel fukking hollins for trying to come up with some stupid ass defensive scheme instead of just fouling whoever gets the ball on the spurs inbounds...players have to be smarter than that as well...great shots by spurs, but the fukking moron coach cost memphis that game... it was kansas/memphis ncaa title game all over again... i think the spurs roll my hometown idiots now

In europe in this situation everybody would miss second free throw intentionaly because teams can`t take timeouts in possesion. Nba is different thing, I think it was good decision to make ft but memphis had to make foul and not to let shoot 3 pointer.
