Hornets need to sellout as many games as possible for financial reasons so the team won't lose money. This is why Stern told the Lakers to let Hornets have 3 home games.

NBA owns the Hornets since they are in bankruptcy. It's in the best interest of the league to have Hornets play 3 home games to make money and pay the bills.
