A similar thing happened in my city about 8 or so years ago, but it was a nightclub owner and his bank deposit. I can't remember the amount, but it was more than 10K and less than 30K. It was returned as well.

I would return it. If you were driving a taxi and a known big time hustler accidentally left his stash behind when you dropped him off at a Vegas hotel, would you take it. I wouldn't because I guarantee you that person would track down every taxi driver in that city. People kill for just a few hundred dollars, not worth the risk if the person knows how you look.

I'd give it back if I were HIM, the business guy obv knows he left it in the cab. You never know who you are stealing from. If I found it on the ground, hell no i'd bring it in to the police, but in his situation, i can see why he returned it. $500 thou is a slap in the face. 5k is more fair.

even if he "tracked" it back to the cab there is no guarantee that the CABBIE has it how many times i have gotten into a cab and found phones, cash, jewelry, etc. cabbie could have easily said the next fare got it

What are you going to spend it on? You can't claim to not have it then go buy a new car? You can't enjoy $50000 like its extra money if you didn't earn it. So what is the fun in that?

Theres something called "karma" and call me stupid for believing in it but I think its true. Besides, I'm always that guy that loses his wallet with cash in it and I would love nothing more than for someone return it instead of having to reapply for license, health card, DC etc.

That is one reason I would give it back. I would hope to get it back if I lost it.

It wasn't his money. He doesn't need to get anything more then a thank you. Him saying "is that all I get" kinda hurt the story a bit.

Hell, Mr. "I don't trust banks" also got his laptop and passport back! That cabbie could have seriously fuk'ed up this guy's day if he wanted too. Why not take the money just to bet them on +100 odds, if you win you will return the 50 000 and you will keep the rest of the money + the tip, this is how you get better odds.
