That has to be the biggest panic move by a GM ever. They were in first place in the West when they made the deal and were outscoring everyone. Tell me that team wouldn't have gone through the Lakers (with their weak-ass defense) like a hot knife through butter.

"no." no commitment/ability/desire to play defense on any level.

umm did you understand the purpose of Shaq? He was to take on tim duncan when we met the spurs in the playoffs. He did a DAMN good job at it too. Parker lit up the boards. Without Shaq it would've been last year all over again. Sadly we still lost, but Shaq was not the reason for failure.

        If it wasn't for Shaq?

The Suns got knocked out in the first round by the three seed winning only one playoff game. They couldn't do better than that without him???

Reason: They never would have played the Lakers in the playoffs.

Reason: Steve Nash couldn't guard my grandma in a locked closet.

Suns would have been the number one seed without the trade, however, I still think the Spurs would have beaten if they had met, home court or not. Phoenix would have beaten everyone else in the West. Bad trade, no matter how you slice it.

It was fun to see what would happen with Shaq but hard to see Kerr's logic. The Suns took the Spurs to the limit with a ref on the take, their best big suspended, and their best player sitting out the closing minutes of an even game to get his face stitched up. The media seems to respect Kerr for demanding they play D and say the Suns had to do something.

Why didn't Memphis contact Phoenix? If that Gasol trade was in Fantasy sports it would have been vetoed by the GMs.

That's the thing. He didn't have to do it. He got it in his head that the Lakers got a big man, we need to get a big guy. It's ridiculous because Gasol is more forward than a center who'll control the paint. He'll get rebounds, but he's not a defensive presence down low that would stop the Suns from scoring. Kerr also probably felt he needed someone to match up against Garnett if they did get to the finals and went up against Boston.

No. They hadn't gotten out of the west without him. It was a move, as others have stated, to get by the Spurs. It didn't work out the Suns any more than getting Kidd worked out for the Mavs.

Maybe they can send Shaq back to the Lakers for injured Bynum in the offseason

Just as big a panic trade was the Kidd trade. Put that franchise in the dumps.

Kidd needs an teammates that run through the paint. Dirk for Shaq?
