#877If anyone thinks this wont affect sportsbooks you are delusional, FBI went right for the heart of online gambling and right for the big dog, they succeeded and will be going at the smaller dogs now, think about it if this crackdown came with the offshore books that would of tipped the big dogs off to what was about to happen. Online gambling overseas is done and will all be done via government sites.

#879they will never stop it.
Look at all the online sports sites where you could watch sports for free. They shut em down and more popped up the same day.Comment -

#882How does spending countless dollars on an unnecessary prosecution get the government money? Legalize it and tax it if they want money. This is just wasting government money.Comment -

#885A lot of speculative nonsense in this thread. No one really know for sure, but I'd wager, let's see...263 points that there will still be an offshore poker website operating on Dec 31, 2011 that accepts US customers for real money games. +100 / +100. Any takers?Comment -

#889Where are all the people they went after? In foreign countries? The U.S. Would have to try and extradite them. Wouldn't that be affected by the WTO ruling that went against the U.S.?Comment -

#898What is with all these government a-holes? They just seized atdhe or whatever that streaming site was and now this? Can't these worthless bums go deal with stuff that matters. No wonder why this country is like a trillion in debt. We have these government boobs being paid a boatload of money to deal with shit like this. Way to take freedom away from people that just want to gamble some money. What a crock of shit. I wish it wasn't so hard to move to Europe or I'd be out of here.Comment -

#902When that 2006 law was in place.
My money was stuck on a poker site then eventually I got it out from joining new online banks.
Since all banks are frozen on those sites, you will never get your money back if this turns out to be like that Enron scandal.Comment -

#905I want the gov to legalize online sportsbooks and let the free market mold their business. Look at how much all these off shore books are making off US players. And if they tax it they would still generate billions of dollars that would stay in this country. There is money to be made if we tax this so don't just shut it down.Comment -

#909There is what should be and there is what is. Moralizing the issue is irrelevant. The same guys processing these cashouts were involved in wholesale CC fraud. Moving money is the linchpin to crime, and with the amount of money involved, poker sites are a natural place to do it.
I've known guys to move drug money through poker sites, narcotic and steroid sales involving Russia and countries like Moldova where everything is for sale. I've seen guys from Moldova sitting together with a few Russains and you know it's not about poker. I'd bet my life terrorism money has been funneled through a poker site, and certainly it's a haven for cleaning drug money. Those are ground zero countries for proliferation of all things hard to obtain.
That Pokerstars tries to prevent it and doesn't want that is beside the point. It happens, certain factions in the US gov't don't want it, and when the US puts a target on you; you have little choice but to lay back and take it. It sucks, I don't agree with it as they will simply find other channels to move money, but that is beside the point. Stars and Tilt ownership knew this day would come, they rolled the dice they could bank enough to make a settlement and eventually skate. Whether that happens remains to be seen.Comment -
