Yeah. This is sadly true.

888 is a big listed casino / poker / sports / bingo / Business to business software provider. They're listed on the London Stock Exchange (possibly AIM, I can't be bothered checking). I'd be willing to bet they're one of the twenty biggest corporations on SBR.

Euro books make money the same way US books do - by taking bets from idiots. They can be quicker with the ban hammer on people who only take good lines because they can put an ad on TV and get more idiots.
