SBR Poker sure has lot of insane lucky river cards

Is it just me?

I have played alot of poker at tons of different places and I have never seen more insane river beats in any poker software in over 10 years. It's one thing to see a few lucky river cards here and there, but to see it EVERY half a dozen hands or so EVERY single tourney is really fishy.

Maybe they should loosen up the poker a bit to make it less random? I don't know what controls it, but wow, the last 4-5 tourneys i've played I have watched player after player get beat on the river on some insane possibility, including myself.

It's way too frequent.

Generally playing poker takes skill and patience, with this it seems like playing slot machines.

Thoughts?

thats what happens when u play 20-30 hands live (and arent involved in all of them of course)

more hands are played online and you will often have less time to recover from the last bad beat, making it feeeeeel so much more punishing.

SBR has nothing to gain by having a controlled element in their software. Also, as much as people get rivered, I still continually see the same names at the top of the pack in the tourneys. Good players are winning regardless.

It does seem like I take alot less sick beats in live poker with a real deck. But playing online, the pace is much faster and you see alot more hands/cards.

I took a sick beat today in one of the 30 person tourneys, I called a decent raise preflop with 22 and flopped a set of 2's against 2 people that had pocket Q's and K's. They went all in after the flop and of course I called, flop was 6,3,2 then the turn came 3, river came 3.....lol. I would have won 18k in chips and been the decisive chip leader but the river had something else to say about that.

I back OP. In 90 minutes, where I played a majority of the time w/ him, there were at least 3 runner-runners. Not sure how many hands it was but especially when you throw in the straight up rivers on top of that it at the very least was highly improbable.

Not to come off like an ass, but if an online site is using a Knuth Shuffle, with any reasonable acceptable source of random numbers as a seed, I'll wager the cards will be randomized better than most live dealers who hand shuffle.

If they are using a shuffling machine at your casino, then essentially (most of them anyway) the computer inside the machine is using an RNG to do a virtual shuffle and then the machine puts the cards in the order the computer has determined.

If a site is using some home-grown shuffle algorithm, or a crappy RNG, this wouldn't apply, but these days it would take about 20 minutes on Wikipedia to get the shuffle and the RNG sufficiently correct.

I have played more online hands than most people I would guess. The fact of the matter is RNG's, or any RANDOM generator is random, just like shuffling cards! (you do realize this don't you)

its on that it happens more, its simply psychology, you think you see more because it sticks out in your brain, you don't realize that KK holds up as much as it probably should, (somewhere between 35-50% of the time).

if someone is holding a flush draw but you have them beat you are going to lose basically 20% of the time. So yeah, do people get rivered often...yeah of course they do.

Along with what BGBoothA states, one thing that I find with people who complain that site XXX is rigged, they forget that once the money is in and-or all 5 cards are dealt, the percentages of probabilities are just that. For that given scenario, the hand that is the dog, will come in x% of the time.

Everybody has been dealt a cooler and everbody deals a cooler to other people. It is a simple fack of poker. And anybody that discounts the fact that more hands are dealt online and therfore more bad beats-coolers are dealt are just not dealing in reality.

That said, IMHO, the bigger real issue that needs to be dealt with and understood better is collusion, bots and overall site regulation (to prevent super users). The last reason noted IMHO, is the most important one because it would provide the most protections and redress options to end users for all forms of cheating (including faulty RNGs).

This is what most people don't understand the math behind it all. People get dealt AA or KK and think they should automatically win the hand its only one pair lol.

Good point. More transparency on how their RNG/shuffling works would be a good start. Even giving out the EXACT shuffling code they use would not allow players to exploit anything if they are on the up-and-up.

That's like saying seeing the type of shuffle the dealer uses on a live table would allow one to predict the order of the cards. Only if it's being done wrong.....

Some report that some consulting firm ran the first 4 cards of a set of hands from 2006 through an excel spreadsheet is a pretty token attempt.

The RNG/Shuffler is only a small piece, but having an atmosphere of transparency like this would be most welcome.

Cheating, colluding, and bots is a tougher problem to address as it is more complex.

I have to say it gets tiresome that whenever someone suffers a bad beat they cry about how it's rigged and how unfair it is, and obviously the times where it happens to go in their favor, it's business as usual. If you're going to complain every time you suffer a bad beat, it's probably just best not to play since I promise you it will happen more. Yes sometimes you get your $ in as a 80% favorite or whatever, but believe it or not, sometimes that 20% stat will wind up going in your opponent's favor. Again learn to deal with it or just don't play.

I think it's the fact that you see a lot more rivers in these freerolls. People don't call raises with low percentage draws when there is cash on the line.

No such thing as Random Number Generator. All are pre-programmed algorithms that are predictable and eventually repeat. The computer is not capable of producing numbers or cards at random. They only appear random.

Every single poker game in the world has crazy river cards. Most of the time, you probably shouldn't have been in the hand. It's part of the game, happens in every game, tourney, ring everywhere!
