    Which Pitcher Would You Prefer?
    Out of these 2 choices...

Thru 150 Starts....Pitching for the SAME team!

    Pitcher A: 77-23, 4.56 ERA, 1.52 WHIP

    Pitcher B: 43-39, 2.73 ERA, 1.17 WHIP

(These are not stats from any pitchers in particular; just hypothetical.)

What if the same results happened for their next 150 starts?

Would you rather a great pitcher who doesnt win games? Or a bad pitcher who wins games?

                B.

I would rather take my chances with the pitcher that will keep the game close in the first half of the game, then one that can dig you in a early hole.

Still B. When comparing pitchers, Wins means nothing. Pitchers A obviously pitches for a powerhouse team that gives him loads of support. If Pitcher B pitched for Team A, he would be a Cy Yoing candidate every year.

Besides, because of the W/L record, pitcher B would almost always offer great value.

Lets say pitcher A is getting the results because somehow he motivates his teams to hit for him everytime out.

                    While pitcher B does not.

Figuring they are both pitching for the same team!

I didnt ask, "Who is the better pitcher?". I asked "Which pitcher would you prefer?"

No. If they do indeed pitch for the same team and continue pitching like they have been, the records will turn around and approach more normal levels in relation to their WHIP especially.

pitchers don't 'win games'. teams do.

yes, this question is simple unless you are asking austin.

If the players are not motivated to hit for money, what could a pitcher do? Now, if this was the NL and that pitcher was batting .560 with a HR every 5 ABs, you may have another answer.

A pitcher can't motivate his team to hit better. A guy who gives up less runs is better than a guy who gives up more.
