6 innings is normal first few starts. These games are meaningless compared to Docs overall arm health.

Pitchers dont come out and throw 120 pitches in the first start .. it just doesn't happen.

In that situation you dont bring Halladay out unless he has a reasonable chance to finish the inning, bring him out you forgo the chance to pinch hit and to try to lefty matchup. Halladay had 101 pitched through six so he would have about 115 before he finished the 7th.

6,5,4,20 <- number of starts the last 4 years before halladay threw 115 pitches in a game.

Most starting pitchers are not fully stretched out before their 1st game, so pitching 101 is his max. The last thing they need is some injury this early in the season for pushing to far in game 1.
