Imagine Kobe and Larry Fitzerald and D.Howard playing soccer, they'd win the world cup every year and we'd dominate it as much as we dominate football.
How much would we dominate soccer if our best athletes played it?

#11I think you could dominate lots of sports if you used your best athletes. Both rugby codes for example. I don't think your best athletes would help in soccer. The best soccer player in the world is tiny. Same goes for past great like Maradona and Pele.Comment -

#17all you European f*ucks can laugh all you want, but is there really any doubt about this question? Of course we would dominate soccer if soccer was our #1 sport instead of our 4th or 5th sport. Not because of some inherent American talent, but just by the sheer number of athletes we possess. You take all the great American athletes that are currently excelling in various other sports outside of soccer and you put soccer balls in front of them when they were younger instead of basketballs, footballs(American), baseballs, etc. and you can't tell me we wouldn't be able to produce 11 premier World Class soccer talents. And let's not discount the fact that despite many of our best athletes playing different sports, we have still managed to produce great soccer talents such as Landon Donovan, Clint Dempsey, Tim Howard, Claudio Reyna, Brian McBride, etc.Comment -

The point is that if we send our best football coaches in some other country they will find talent and after a few years they will produce NFL caliber players from that country. I can assure you if you give Mike Tice the best 350 lb Russian athletes he can make an NFL offensive line in a couple years.Comment -

#30is it really that difficult to have a respectable debate without having to get so butt hurt that you would have to make up and share your ridiculous and asinine comment. What in the blue hell would make you think the USA would rank anywhere below #1, let alone #20 in American football if American football was a more global sport? As I've already stated in my previous comment and using the same population/athlete pool size logic, we would continue to produce a large number of top quality athletes and most likely at a much higher rate than just about every country except China, which is the only nation that has a larger population that us. If other countries played American football, the USA would VERY LIKELY dominate the sport. number 20?Originally posted by TR88

#31Here's another thing I find funny.
After American athletes all filled up their American football, hockey, basketball, etc. rosters, did they all of a sudden run out of athletes to fill up their soccer roster? Are you actually saying that you've filled up the top 4-5 most popular sports with elite athletes and then all of a sudden are left with nothing but rift raft?
The US national soccer team is filled with elite athletes, the only thing is, the rest of the world is simply so much better at soccer than the US is. Do you really think a 6'8", 275 pound LeBron James would have the endurance to play a full 90 minutes of soccer? He'd get gassed in the first half. Some of these arguments are just hilarious.Comment -

#32You're assuming there is some type of quota system where once elite athletes fill up a particular sport, they go onto fill up the next sport, and then to the next sport, etc. You're missing the point that soccer is not a sport most American athletes take seriously growing up. The big reason for that is the lack of a reputable well compensating league. MLS is peanuts in terms of publicity and compensation when compared to the other big sports. It's not a matter of elite athletes filling up sports with soccer being the 5th wheel, it's a matter of elite athletes never even giving soccer a thought due to the American sports landscape.Originally posted by forsberg21Here's another thing I find funny.
