    Awful, Terrible Situation I'm In
This is in addition to being many thousands of dollars in gambling debt that my wife is unaware of.

A couple of weeks ago my brother died unexpectedly. In a depressed state I started to drive the several hundred miles to the funeral with a bottle of whiskey in my hand. I fell asleep across the state line with the next thing I remember being the explosion of an air bag going off in my face. I then remember walking around seeing all kinds of emergency vehicles in the area asking everyone if somebody was hurt, and evidently no one was. I was taken to jail and charged with DUI, and I bailed out the next day. I'm still not sure what happened or what I hit. I never did make it to the funeral.

Now I'm back, but in a job where I have to drive a company vehicle long distances every day. Almost certainly, the other state will report this to my state, and when they do my DMV will revoke my license. I still have the "paper" license, which I must submit to my employer every year as proof I am an eligible driver (I don't think they actually ever run this license through the DMV to make sure it's not revoked).

This is quite a dilemna. Once my license is revoked, should I just continue to drive and hope I don't get stopped? If I have to go through a checkpoint, what are the chances they will just accept the license, and wave me through and not run it through their computers?

This really makes me want to drink and gamble...

Keep driving until you get caught. Most states have a restricted license option. You can drive for work purposes only. Good luck man. Lay off the drinking and smoke weed.

won't your job eventually find out about this incident?

i worked for a water company and if any thing like this happened to one of their drivers they would be canned immediately or, if lucky, reassigned to a position that doesn't require driving a company vehicle

Wouldn't help with my work. You're not allowed to drive with any alcohol or drug convictions in 5 years.

All I could do is take my chances and hope nobody runs my license. My main worry is checkpoints which are everywhere here.

In addition to losing my job, driving with a revoked license is a class 1 misdemeanor punishable by up to 120 days in jail.

Lay off the sauce, limit the wagers and try to get a 'work only' license. You'll be able to abuse that privilege that little easier than just driving without a license. They'll run your info at any traffic stop or checkpoint...bank on it. If they see that you have a DUI and you're driving without a license or abusing the 'work only' license...you'll be heading to the clink.

Probably not, unless I get arrested in a company vehicle for driving while license revoked.

They ask for a copy of your driver's license for the files each year, bu I don't believe they actually check with the DMV for license validity.

Just be careful driving bro. I lost my license a few years back. I still drive all over nyc everyday. Drive like an old lady and you will never get pulled. I got a pulled over 3 times during this period. All because of mistakes by me. 1 time they let me go and twice I had to spend the night and pay a fine a month later. Just drive. Your job won't find out. Driving with a susp/revoked license is a slap on the wrist. Just be very careful. Let your job find out on their own. Gonna get fired anyway.

not sure what this has to do with a handicapping forum, there has to be somewhere better than this to get advice with your situation (in fact, i can't think of too many places worse than this to look for advice)...

All I could do is take my chances and hope nobody runs my license. My main worry is checkpoints which are everywhere here.

In addition to losing my job, driving with a revoked license is a class 1 misdemeanor punishable by up to 120 days in jail.
Are you asking whether you should risk going to jail? Really? You want us to make this decision for you? Just, wow.

Also to the folks suggesting he could get a restricted license, I imagine there's a difference between being allowed to drive for the narrow purpose of going to work vs. being allowed to drive as your work.

Assuming this is true, it's time to own up to your ****-up and not continue to exagerate it. Deal with the consequences like a man and move on. Sorry for the loss of your brother.

Go to your doctor and get examined. Always make sure you're healthy mentally/physically/emotionally. You're probably thinking this is useless and off-topic but something is wrong and you should be checked out.

Try and take some time off? Clear your mind of all your shitty thoughts and think positive. Thinking about the what ifs in life is just going to fukk with your mind.

You want to drink and gamble? Go to AA or block all gambling websites online so you aren't tempted. How does drinking and gambling solve anything? Is it going to make you feel good for that short amount of time, while in reality you're depressed?

Or get a new job that doesn't require driving or whatever you're doing. Plenty of jobs out there, please don't blame the economy.
