The Buchholz thing is no joke. He was a sprint champion in high scool. Ran a 10.87 100-meter.
(For context - although world class men are sub 10 - Marion Jones' best was 10.65 and Flo-Jo's best ever was 10.49).

In the minors, Buchholz beat Ellsbury in a race and Francona has ordered they not race each other again even though the other Boston players were pushing for them to do it.

Steals are a good bench mark but steals aren't just about flat out speed. Steals are also a function of guys ability to read the pitchers move, get good jumps, and have managers that actually let them steal.

Nijer Morgan is NOT near the fastest, I watched a lot of him. Just because he's a skinny knee grow doesn't mean he's the fastest because he's not. Ellsbury would smoke him and he's probably not even #1. Carl Crawford is also way overrated in the speed department. Little Ichiro at 36 or whatever years old would smoke him.

My best guess for #1 would be Ellsbury, Borne, Gardner or Buckholtz

Michael Born is a speedster that hits like a double A player. Bourne is maybe the fastest guy in the league and an awesome base stealer but his bad is so poor it's questionable for him to even stay in the lineup. Gardner should be a .300 hitter for years.
