White House wants to make 'illegal' streaming a felony...for users too.
The White House today proposed sweeping revisions to U.S. copyright law, including making "illegal streaming" of audio or video a federal felony and allowing FBI agents to wiretap suspected infringers.

How does one become a suspected user without the government having a blank search warrant on any computer on any US based ISP? Why a felony for code when it's a misdemeanor if I go to Best Buy and walk out with a DVD?

          LOL exactly.

This is a homeland security issue, how exactly? Someone watching a homemade music video on YouTube is now a felon who has given the government probable cause to wiretap them?

"The White House is concerned that "illegal streaming of content" may not be covered by criminal law, saying "questions have arisen about whether streaming constitutes the distribution of copyrighted works."

Wow, elected officials really do think the people are very dumb to trot out a lame line like that.

Desperate attempt to protect the receding power of the broadcast companies.

Of course they'll get the green light from the ISPs that are mostly owned by ******* cable TV companies.

This isn't an issue of free or not free. I don't feel bad at all for the record industry that worked together to gouge billions from the American public during the CD era, only to settle the class action for $143M. link or for the motion picture industry that is owned by parent companies that own cable companies that, through extensive lobbying, control the internet in 91% of online American homes, while the cable companies monopolize every town they offer service in on a municipal level.

The issue is that these megacorps that control the pipeline of how supposedly free citizens get information will gladly cough up info on any customer that is paying inflated cable rates to a government that they paid off for the rights to the monopoly.

What else would you expect from an organization that bows down and worships corporations. Give them every tax break under the sun, export our jobs over sea so they can hire cheap labor and make everything illegal so citizens have to buy their shitty products.

The White House is doing an excellent job. First the went after the loud volume in commercials. Now they go after stealing TV.
