Why is the East so much better athletically than the West?
For football the SEC is head and shoulders better than any other conference. For basketball its either the Big East or the ACC which are both of course in the east.

The only traditional powerhouse from the west in basketball and football comes from UCLA and USC which happen to be in L.A.

For basketball the east has Kentucky, Duke, UNC, and even Florida lately has been a basketball powerhouse. Kansas is a midwest school, doesn't count in this.

No question the east just produces so many more athletes, even per capita. The southeast puts out more athletes in football and basketball per capita than any other area. Northeast just puts them all out in volume. West is limited to just the west coast. I guess there just aren't nearly as many people outside of the coastal states in the west. Sad.

You guys care more down south whole towns shut down for high school football in texas. Sec Coaches have to be escorted by law enforcement on and off the field. Death threats really what else does the south have besides Sports? I lived in Texas and Florida for brief periods i've seen it. Im born and raised in LA sports is something thats fun for us its not life and death like down south. We have things to do out here besides sports.

The main reason is that the Pac-10 has higher standards. Anyone, and I mean anyone, can play at Miami, Florida, Georgia, etc. The SEC doesn't care about education. I'm not saying the Pac-10 has smart athletes and no one else does, I know a bunch of kids who play for USC who are dumb as hell, but the schools out west are research schools and most do have higher academic standards. Oregon, UCLA, Stanford, Cal, etc. have some of the smartest student athletes who "go on to be pro in something other than sports."

Also, Pac-10 teams, with the exception of USC and maybe Oregon, don't cheat as much.

Goes back to the inception of the West. The West was for people that couldn't cut it in the East, it's still the mentality.

              You can't be serious?

              Oregon State is a cesspool.

Ditto for both the Arizona programs. Arizona and Arizona State were both on NCAA probation for multiple sports over multiple years.

              Same with Washington.

The ONLY clean program in the Pac-10 has been Stanford.

Cal was cited in 2002 for lacking "institutional control" and banned from a Bowl Game.

Outside of Stanford, you can't name a Pac-10 school that has not been on NCAA probation.
