For football the SEC is head and shoulders better than any other conference. For basketball its either the Big East or the ACC which are both of course in the east.
The only traditional powerhouse from the west in basketball and football comes from UCLA and USC which happen to be in L.A.
For basketball the east has Kentucky, Duke, UNC, and even Florida lately has been a basketball powerhouse. Kansas is a midwest school, doesn't count in this.
No question the east just produces so many more athletes, even per capita. The southeast puts out more athletes in football and basketball per capita than any other area. Northeast just puts them all out in volume. West is limited to just the west coast. I guess there just aren't nearly as many people outside of the coastal states in the west. Sad.
