I hate to say it but Kobe has passed Bird and Duncan at this point. Even Bill Simmons, the biggest Celtic fan ever and a notorious Kobe hater said last week that Kobe has passed Bird on the greatest of all time list.

If Bryant is not in your top 5 greatest players every to play the game there is something wrong with your list. Lots might be hesitant to put him there but they will realize his greatness when he retires. I remember when Jordan was playing and won his 4th or 5th ring, I had no doubts that I was witnessing the greatest player ever to play. Everyone was hesitant to call him that, still mentioning names like Wilt and Kareem etc. There is no comparison between Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain. Years later, when he's retired, people start to see how great Jordan really was.

The fact that Kobe didn't make the top 10 let alone the top 5 shows how bad this list is. They wanted the list to look all fancy and 'knowledgeable' about our historical players.
It's like making a top 10 list for the greatest soccer players ever and not including Messi in it (for those who know what I'm talking about).

Kobe will be a top 10 all time player, but he's not top 5 yet... I really don't see an argument to put him there.
He wasn't the best player on his team for 3 of his 5 championship teams. His "taking over of games" in the 4th (aka, not passing to anyone and taking bad shots) costs his team the game just as much, if not more often than winning them. He's mediocre with last shot winning/tying opportunities.
His ego gets in the way, IMHO. He tries too hard to do it on his own, rather than relying on his teammates.
That being said, he will be top 10 when its all said and done. Don't see him passing MJ/Russell/Kareem/Magic/Bird/Hakeem/Shaq

Bill Russel a guy with 0 offensive game yet the best defensive big man of all time. You don't get to #1 on the list just because you played on a stacked team and were the best D player of all time. You have to play both ends of the court, bud.

you see him left off a lot of top 10 lists or at least top 5 lists
I think the current 20-something generation that never saw him play has him under-rated
even when he is rated at top 5 I think people forget how amazing he really was.
Michael, magic, larry. we'll never see another era like that

FT's matter but you can't just give someone credit for giving to the line, if you go to the line it is still a possession, going 4-10 from the field and 10-10 from the line is 18 points on 10 shots, but is still 15 possessions. Someone who goes 10/15 20 points with no FT's is scoring less points per shot but more points per possession.

go ahead and tell me any other players that would score 50 and 60+ against those teams (while shooting over 50%)
And those teams beat the hell out of the bulls save the Knicks. You only proved his point.

kareem should be number 1, 2, or 3. kareem was badass for 20 years in the nba, 6 championships. TWENTY YEARS OF DOMINATION
made all star team 19 of those 20 years
jordan and chamberlain badass. all 3 tied for first in my book.
