Radiation Starting To Leak From Japanese Nuke Plant
TOKYO – Japanese nuclear officials say radiation levels inside a nuclear power plant have surged to 1,000 times their normal levels after the cooling system failed.
The nuclear safety agency said early Saturday that some radiation has also seeped outside the plant, prompting calls for further evacuations of the area. Some 3,000 people have already been urged to leave their homes.
The cooling system for a reactor at the Fukushima Daiichi power plant failed on Friday after a massive earthquake caused a power outage.
The continued loss of electricity has also delayed the planned release of vapor from inside the reactor to ease pressure. Pressure inside one of the reactors had risen to 1.5 times the level considered normal.

The Us bombed the crap out of Japan like 70 years ago and that ushered them into a new age of technology and advancement. I wouldnt be surprised that after this earthquake and tsunami, Japan becomes even better than it was before, those Japs are crafty mofos

I've been glued the TV watching coverage of this since last night when I watched the tsunami wave live. It's unbelievable and very very unfortunate that this has happened. I hope the loss of life is very minimal considering the massive damage that has been done

from what I have been reading it sounds like it could get a lot worse if they can not do something to cool the nuclear reactors.

At Three Mile island nearly a third of the nuclear fuel melted due to lack of cooling. Despite that no significant radioactivity was released into the atmosphere.

The situation at the Japanese plant is nowhere near as bad as that and is unlikely to get that bad.

Chernobyl was a decrepit facility that would never have been allowed to operate in the US or Japan.

I have worked within this area. From what i've heard, the japanese have "no problems" with their NPP:s on component level. This means that if they actually admit something is wrong it could be really bad.
