switching from DSL to cable broadband
About a year ago i was talking to someone at the bar and they were telling me about having a phone bill and DSL through Bell South and a cable bill through Insight, they said they were going to switch the everything to Insight because of the Triple play deal they were offering for cable/broadband internet/phone. they were talking about how the phone service through the cable offered unlimited long distance and the broadband internet was faster. well they told me they called Insight to ask about it, then a day later someone from Bell South called to tell them they could bundle the services with them and get unlimited long distance. we got into the discussion about whether it was a coincidence or whether the phone company has the cable company's number in their system and when you call them it raises a flag and they monitor the call.

well yesterday i went over to cut my parents grass and my mom was telling me it just happened to her this week. she said she had called Insight to ask about switching and if she could keep her number and all. she said the cable company told her don't call the phone company and tell them your thinking about it or they will try to keep you from keeping your number, just let them(the cable company) switch it for her and their would be no problems. what my mom said was weird, is that the phone company has never called her before and when she got DSL a few years back they never told her about a bundle package for unlimited long distance. my mom works from home and calls clients from all over, she said she has the cheapest DSL package they offer for like $24.99 and that her regular phone bill for her business is anywhere from $80-100 a month, plus the basic cable is $30 from Insight. she said Insight offered unlimited long distance, faster internet and extended basic cable all for $110.
she thought it was odd that Windstream(the phone company) called her like 2 days later and was offering her a faster DSL and unlimited long distance package for $49.99 a month, and they mailed her a brochure about the benefits of phone vs. cable

so has anyone never been offered an unlimited phone deal from their phone company, but has called their cable company and within a couple days get a call from the phone company trying to keep you from switching?

it seems the phone companies don't want to tell you about deals they have and that they monitor people calls to the cable company.

maybe it is all a coincidence or is it.
