This tells me two things - neither of which are related to eachother:

    1. The judicial system will back the police when their balls are on the line.

    2. This will turn into another one of Al Sharpton's rants. The sad thing is that he's actually right this time.

New York cops are very scary, and are still corrupt as hell. Just watch American Gangster, very good movie I might add. California have their ups and down with the LAPD, and gangs here are pretty notorious as well but you'll never hear news headlines of them put 50 bullets in a person. What them NYPD thugs did is just inhumane, hopefully they get what's coming to them later in their sick pathetic lives.

This is unbelievable. These cops should be put in a car and shot 50 times from a tank.

          I like this line:

The judge, Justice Arthur Cooperman, indicated when he delivered the verdict that the officers' version of events was more credible than the victims' version. "The people have not proved beyond a reasonable doubt that each defendant was not justified" in firing, he said.
Okay....but did the defendants have any proof that they WERE?

Defendants don't have to prove their innocence. That's a pretty important aspect of the U.S. legal system.

You will realize what a bunch of bullshit it all is once you have a friend shot by the cops. I didn't read the whole thing but in a simple answer YES.

The burden of proff is not on the Defendants. It's the prosecutions job to prove one guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The Bell family and the 2 other victims should have no problem suing NYC in civil court.

Yeah that's the problem with the legal system, without a barenone concrete evidence like that rodney king video, it's extremely hard to prosecute people who works for the Justice system.

The answer is YES, which is why whenever a cop comes up to you don't act like an idiot or try to peel off away b/c you will likely either be tazed, maced, shot, etc. and assuming you live will be charged with resisting arrest. Most cops have no guage for the seriousness of a situation, they are taught to always suspect that the guy has a gun and is about to kill them, so be prepared to kill them before they have the chance. I remember when my exgf was going nuts b/c I had lost some of her clothes when I was moving, she wanted 100 bucks for the clothes which I said I would give her if I couldn't find the clothes by tomorrow and that I didn't have a 100 bucks cash on me at the moment, she (as is typical of women) went insane when she didn't get her way immediately and threw stuff at me complaining that she needed those clothes for work tomorrow and so I escorted her out the door of my apt. (problem solved right...wrong) she immediately starts to key my car LOL and I go outside and pull her away from the car and hold her til she calms down (wishful thinking), she sits in her car crying and then after about 20 mins. says shes going to call the cops on me if I don't give her 100 and tell them I assaulted her and I said go right ahead (figuring the cops would ask her to leave and I could get back to studying if she was actually crazy enough to call them...my mistake number 2), she called them and they showed up (like 6 of em I think) with at least 3 of em with their guns drawn (ready to mow me down for nothing) and I told them I pulled her away from my car she was keying at the time and they told me you cant put your hands on a woman (oh brother) and that I need to go down to the station for a "cool down" time (which basically means a night in jail and I had a fukinnnnn test in like 2 hours), I replied that I am not uncool at all if I were any cooler I would be frozen I just didn't want her keying my car any further (they saw the vandalism and arrested her as well..stupid bitch got us both a night in jail) and they said put your hands behind your back, etc. and for a split second I thought about resisting and pleading my case that this is fukin unreal BS then I thought of all those internet vids I saw where the guy said that and either got wrestled to the ground (best case scenario), maced, tazed, or shot and I just complied and spent the night in jail and all was fine. When I got out and home the next day my neighbor (it was a duplex so he was watching from feet away) said I could see that you were thinking about resisting and I'm just glad you didn't cause they would've prolly shot your ass and he's prolly right as they were paying absolutely no attention to what I was saying and simply waiting for this psycho gf beater to pull out his 9 (or make any movement that could be misconstrued as pulling out his 9) so they could put a few holes in me and regardless of whether I was reaching for a cell phone or just upset about being arrested for no reason I'd be dead and they'd have gotten off scott free. MORAL OF BOTH THESE STORIES IS WHEN COPS WANT YOU TO STOP OR TO ARREST YOU, THEY WILL STOP YOU EITHER DEAD OR ALIVE WITH AS MUCH FORCE AS IS NECESSARY OR IN ALL LIKELIHOOD VERY EXCESSIVE FORCE SO BE ABSOLUTELY COMPLIANT WITH EVERYTHING THEY TELL YA AND YOU HOPEFULLY WON'T BE SHOT TO DEATH. As for the guys in that car I'm not sure if they were even warned but as you can see there is no way that a cop is going to be convicted of assault/murder no matter what the circumstances are as long as their is any indication that the suspect is a threat (or could be perceived as a threat), so in all likelihood these guys were asked to be stopped and decided to just drive off (probably drunk (shouldn't have been driving anyway) and having a good time and no doubt didn't want to spend their bachelor party in jail) rather than talk to the cop, they squeel off and their car comes close to the officer as they are driving away, cop interprets this as his life being in danger and then unloads 50 shots into the car, excessive use of force but will never be convicted.

except when it comes to the IRS, the burden of proof is on YOU to prove your not guilty or hiding something. If the IRS says you're guilty, you're guilty, until you can prove otherwise.

These cops definitely seemed out of line but there are approximately ONE MILLION police officers in the US.

There are bound to be a few (hundred, thousand even) clowns when your dealing with ONE MILLION officers.

Everyone hates cops until your 3 year old goes missing or you just got carjacked or there's some whack job with a rifle walking through the mall with an AR-15 gunning soccer moms down.

Just cause these morons acted very inappropriately doesn't mean every cop is corupt or out of control.

BTW the title of this thread blows and reeks of generalization

I think most of us realize that there are bad cops and good ones but what we want is for the same standards to apply when police shoots the wrong person (who usually happens to be black) as what would happens if you or I accidently shot the wrong the person... What do you think would happen if you or I had a conceal carrying permit and shot someone we thought was armed who turned out not to be?

Feels good when you get some shit off your chest sometimes. I told my teacher that I was arrested on a ridiculous assault charge by my gf and which was why I was absent for the exam and he asked me "did you hit her" (translation: Are you a psycho who gets his kicks by beating up his gf but doesn't want to take responsibility for your actions) and I just rolled my eyes and said no not hardly but felt like saying yea I knocked all her teeth out, then I shot the cops that came to arrest me and after my night "cool down" period they let me out, was a rough night for me but thankfully they let me off with a warning.

#1) Not a good time/idea to act crazy when in the sights of law enforcement, especially when U R frequenting a seedy place. God doesn't grant alot of asks, but one he will grant you is trouble if you ask for it. The sooner society, as a whole, realizes this, the better off we'll all be.

                                            2) Sharpton is a racist blowhard..............all he does is elevate the divisiveness that already exists.

anytime you start yelling about "getting a gun" and then drive your car into a cop's car, you have to expect the worst. no cop wants to kill someone and they are taught to unload their clips once they fire, whether he had been shot 50 times or 5 times probably wouldn't have mattered, the cops were shooting to kill.

what kills me the most is there are hundreds of innocent people on death row ready to die for doing NOTHING...yet that gets no publicity...

now i'm not saying that he deserved to die that night...but maybe stories like this will stop people from ****ing with police and thinking they are above the law.

here is my very opinionated response.

Policy officers undercover had the element of suprise on them. They came with random comments like go get my gun... blah balh crap... I mean the cops story isn't even believable.

Then they emptied 50 bullets into the 3 guys... 2 of the guy admitted they only fired because other officers were firing... ( I will give them a pass...you defend your crew no matter what).

Its the guy who dropped a clip and reloaded and dropped another clip.

Now, this was policy assessment trial of the situation. I think they were guilty as hell, but they are clearly going to lose the civil stuff and more than likely be fired from the department anyways...

I'm not going to rail on officers for defending themselves to protect there buddies. I will rail on the office who initiated the whole damn thing.

                                                I hope that makes sense.

Yeah that's kind of where I'm at carnagge. The guy who fired 31 rounds is gonna get slaughtered in the civil trial and I would be VERY suprised if NYPD doesn't can him.

He was incompetent and reckless on that scene.

But like I mentioned in my previous post, I just hate it when it becomes a Bash All Cops Fest everytime one bad apple makes the headlines.
