With air fares going out of site,Greyhound is dirt cheap for SBR Vegas get together!
If you are lucky enough to have www.allegiantair.com at your local airport, you might get round trip tickets to Vegas for the SBR get together for under $200 round trip and with the add on taxes,it could reach $250.From Duluth, Minnesota you could always get Allegiant to Vegas for $158-$198 plus taxes but I see it's going up.

So I decided to check on Greyhound bus fares and I was surprised to see how cheap tickets were if you go on the buy ahead of time, internet purchase of the special long distance fare promotion.A 1600 mile distance between your hometown to Vegas round trip is about $159 plus tax. They have a flexible distance scale where the fare fee varies. I have never ridden Greyhound and I know there are alot of stinky and strung out characters that ride but there are probably a few vacant seats where you can get your space.A long distance trip really doesn't take as long as you think because you are riding almost continuously except for pickups.

With gas prices the way they are, taking Greyhound might be a persons only chance to see alot of scenery out on the road and it might be fun.One of those I did it once and liked it but wouldn't want to do it again dealies.

So is SBR actually going to give $250 travel vouchers to 1,000 poster members? How is that going to be implemented? Are rooms free too for the 1,000 posters? If so,is it going to be where people are going to be matched up with room mates or do you get a room to yourself? Is it for the Golden nugget?

I took the greydog once in Florida from Ft. Lauderdale to Orlando, and it took about a month to get there. What ever the price difference is, it is worth it. As for the $250 voucher for a flight, I was going to give that to the charity that they chose because I already bought my tickets from Allentown to Vegas for $269. With tax and prepaid parking it came to about $325.

BTW the $250 voucher represents some of the hardest work I have ever had to do. 1000 post count comes easily to some folks here, but for me I imagine it was like having a broken half gallon bottle of JD removed from me colon with a back-ho by a blind and drunk farm worker.

If I had a choice between the two I would take a flight anyday unless you are practically giving the bus trip away for free.

Dude you are nuts, why do you think no one takes the bus? Answer it TAKES FOR ****ING EVER!!! Having taken Greyhound twice in my life on long trips, I can tell you they stop CONSTANTLY, there is no cruising along the interstate while you take a nap going on (well maybe for 80 miles til they make their next 20-30 min. stop to drop off and pick up and load the luggage and take a break...that's right you get an enjoyable 30 min break every hour at some shithole bus station in w/e population over 10k town they find along the interstate). I am amazed that Greyhound is still in business for the diff in price 250 vs 150 I can literally not believe ppl would be that poor to try and save 100 bucks (especially going to Vegas, I mean just stay away from Blackjack for a day and you'll save a 100). In all honesty it's less than 250 roundtrip on Southwest to Vegas from Nashville and even if they were giving Greyhound tickets away I would probably fly. The only ppl who take Greyhound are illegal immigrants with truly no money, white trash, and ghetto dwellers that only ride b/c they had no more blood to sell to pay for the plane ticket. The only people with any money that ride Greyhound are people on it for short trips, like from an airport to their destination (for 2-3 hundred mile trips Greyhound is fine, for 1600 it would be hell on earth)

You would need to leave next Thursday to make it there by the time the bash starts.

I took greyhound twice as a kid from West Palm Beach to Ocala, Florida. It was phucking brutal and I have never used them since. Every damn hour we stopped and either let 2 people off or 2 people on and it took a sickening amount of time. I would pay 2k to fly to Vegas from Toronto before I accepted 2k from greyhound to bus to Vegas. BRU-TAL!

$723.50 is the current Delta rate from where Im at in FL to Vegas. Last year I went for $318 a ticket. Thats a pretty steep jump in rates. If I drive 5 hours to Atlanta it drops to $403.00. Im sure these rates will increase by summer too.

Im with the others here,F the bus thing, I did a bus thing like 25 years ago from Arkansas to Florida took like 36 hours, never again.

That's only a couple hundred miles LOL, multiply that times 12 (W.Palm Beach to Vegas is over 2500 miles) and imagine how you'd be feeling knowing you were going to have to do it allover again on your way back home ROFLMAO. But seriously this is about the max length of trip anyone with a job would take on Greyhound and it is b/c they are either 200 miles away from their destination or from the airport they are using to get somewhere and I think it is fine for that though it will take twice as long as it would take you driving a car to go the same distance, so virtually everyone just drives (once again I cannot understand how Greyhound stays in business).

i haven't rode a greyhound in years, and i'll drive or fly before i ride again. what i have found crazy about greyhound is that since 9/11 with all the security, you would think greyhound would of stepped it up, but no, its just like catching a regular public transportation bus. i took my uncle to the greyhound station about a year and a half ago, and it was crazy, no scanning of people for weapons or even their luggage, nothing. you just buy a ticket and get on, no security checks or anything.

The only bus I do take is the bus from Reading Pa to New York. This is the best way to go because you don't need a car in New York and parking is a bitch also. The bus leaves every hour 24-7. The ride still sucks because you can't spark up a bowl and once the driver kicked me off for drinking. The ride is only 2 hours induration and it feels like pulling teeth to me. I can't imagine riding 2500 miles to vegas and back. I wouldn't wish that on my biggest enemy.

Guess when they fly a Greyhound bus into a building they will step it up on the bus deal.

I would never ride a bus to go to Vegas let alone anywhere. I frequent Vegas all the time and we have 2 airlines that fly direct. I pay anywhere from $170.00 -$300.00 round trip. I only am a 45 minute flight to Vegas. Only time I pay high is when I feel like going spur of the moment. I

i took greyhound once from nj to pittsburgh

took 19 hours for a 500 mile trip

we stopped everywhere and i think a couple times we picked up the mail and delivered it. also there wasn't an empty seat the entire trip.

ended up flying back, wasn't worth it

Greyhound is absurd. I can't imagine why anyone planning to go to vegas would take the greyhound. Taking the greyhound to get to vegas does not sound right at all. hahah

I honestly want to know how Greyhound stays in business, the only thing I can think of is that some ppl are scared to fly or that some are so barrelled in the 100 bucks they save by riding a cramped bus for 72 hrs (36 hrs both ways) vs. a plane for 8 (4 hrs both ways) is actually worth it, stay at a Super 8 and save 100 bucks if you are that much of a cheapskate (though I suspect Greyhound Bus travelers would likely consider Super 8 to be too pricey). SOMEONE EXPLAIN TO ME HOW THIS COMPANY MAKES A PROFIT, HOW ARE THEY STILL IN OPERATION, DO THEY SERVICE CLIENTELE WHICH HAVE LOST THEIR LICENSES OR SOMETHING WHAT IS THE DEALIO???

you also need to remember that greyhound has advantage of dropping you off in one of the "better" parts of downtown Vegas... So on top of saving money on airfare you save some more on skipping the cabride back and forth from the airport to the Golden Nugget... (of course if you arrive at night where you might still want to pick up a cab for the quarter mile ride to the Nugget)
