With signing bonuses and guaranteed contracts,a guy like Long can get some sort of minor and meaningless injury that doesn't hinder his lifestyle but prohibits him from playing football and he would make out like a bandit right now.

So you make 10 million bucks getting injured instead of a possible 100 or so million if you stuck around for a few years where your body is all worn out.

To me there is no difference having 10 million bucks or 100 million bucks. What incentive is there to get the beejesus beat out of you for years as compared to retiring at 23?Just think of all the absolute jerk players, owners, coaches, media and jock sniffers you don't have to put up with the rest of your life. You go into oblivian with your 10 mill and you become an annonymous guy that can live one hell of a fun life doing as you please.

Do these players actually think they have to prove something or have lofty goals to obtain?Once you knocked 500 guys on their asses, what is their to prove?Who cares that you have the drive ,determination and work ethic to want to knock 5,000 guys on their asses. You are just a big strong guy with a good technique to block guys. You aren't a brain surgeon or aren't some genius economist that can set the world's governments straight as to how to solve all the world's financial problems. When you are an offensive tackle, people forget about you a month after you retire or get traded.

You can never have to much money Brent. Buying a house and all your cars and toys adds up.Plus you want to keep living the lifestyle and spending alot of money instead of just making the money and saving it. Thats why so many players play until they are very old. They aren't playing for the "love of the game" they are playing because they have already blown all of the money that they have earned through there careers

He's getting way more than $10m guaranteed. Probably closer to $25m or more.
