To put it bluntly... it's a league full of lazy but talented idiots.

Look at a sport like soccer, if a star player or team FOR A SECOND shows any type of laziness or complacency they are immediately removed from the next game or transferred out of the club. But the NBA is an entertainment business, sometimes you can laugh off a loss and sometimes you gotta put a little effort into finishing the job.

I saw a show in Sedona AZ where they found an ancient ball court where they would play a game like Soccer/Basket ball and the winners would be sacrificed to the Gods by beheading. Just found it interesting. Take it for what you will.

simple fact is it happens in all sports.

no professional plays hard all the time. the ones who do end up getting injured.

most players in all sports put in a reasonable effort and when you are in certain situations(playoffs,etc) they step it up a notch.

ive always thought that was the most ridiculous shot people take at players.

Guaranteed Contracts - They get paid to show up and that's about all. Too many games and no incentive to put forth their best effort. Hell, there are former coaches and players doing TV that are still collecting money from 2,3,4 teams.

Look at the Olympics. White athletes have no chance in the sprinting distances and do much better at longer distances. Why is that? Because black athletes are more explosive, and white athletes have a lower ceiling, but can maintain intensity longer? If so, that transfers directly to the NBA. Steve Nash never takes a night off. Never. His new Polish teammate Gortat is the same (father was Olympic boxer). So is Ginobili. But Vince Carter? Or Dwyane Wade? Or Lebron? They play hard only when they feel like it. The rest is cruise control. As the NBA has become more black over time the importance of peaking at the right time has also become more important. Of course no tv commentator is going to say this, because they would be fired for sounding racist. Even though it's not racist at all, and recognizes the ability to peak (for short periods) of black athletes. For the record, this is a general observation. It is not true for every single individual athlete.

Most regular season games don't matter, and since the game is so high scoring, most plays don't matter until the fourth quarter. The sport is almost unwatchable.
