This is my biggest play of the season so far. I’m extremely confident in this play. Historically, the Lakers have had a tough time winning in the Rose Garden the last few years. The Blazers have one of the most depleted rosters in the nba and they are still battling for a division title in the West. This is right around the time the Lakers turn on the Jets. They’re not settling for a 3 seed. Everyone knows how important home court was last year in the playoffs. Even though they will not catch SA, these games after the break are imperative.
The Lakers starters played average minutes last night in a rout over the Hawks. Back to back is obviously a non-factor here for probably the best B2B team in the NBA. The Lakers won in the Rose Garden last year without Bynum and Bryant. Bryant definitely did not forget this and all the times his team struggled in Portland with him on the court. Roy may play limited minutes tonight but it will not even matter. Wesley Mathews and Aldrich are more than 50% of the offense for Portland. When one of these guys has a bad game, Portland is not going to be able to beat an elite team like the Lakers. Mathews is going to get a few different looks tonight. Both Bryant and Artest will guard him in various spots throughout the game. The Blazers are a solid rebounding team but they are pretty small on the block tonight against the Lakers. Aldrich and Gasol both can’t guard one another, but Gasol has the luxury of Odom off the bench to guard Aldrich. I have a feeling we will see some small sets from both teams tonight with Aldrich/Odom playing the 5 for small moments and with Batum/Artest possibly seeing some action at the 4 spot.
Either way the Lakers just have a deeper rotation at the PF/C position against a small Blazers lineup tonight. The Blazers will need guys like Cunningham, Fernadez, and Mills to put forth great efforts tonight to have a chance to win. Blake will probably get some playing time tonight against his former team. Mathews and Batum will both have their shots guarding Bryant, but he’s rested and I can see him really attacking the paint tonight with Portland having no true bigs down there. The Lakers will eat up Portland tonight in the paint and on the glass- both will be keys to Victory.

blazers have been involved in a lot of trade talks. Anyway they make a deal before this game or rest the players possibly involved in a deal to make sure they dont get injured? If so, LA -2 could be decent value. Andre Miller and Camby are two guys that could be moved before tomorrows deadline.Comment -

I have to agree , Portland has been overachieving . I hate to use that word because a win is a win . But if you look at their last 5 they had a good win vs the Bulls (at home) then Toronto , Detroit and Minny on the road .. Nothing really special there . Then they beat a 5 games in 5 days with three of them comming on the road . I think they were more fortunate than anything in their scheduling . I believe the Lakers are going to be a beast in the second half , hey have had some BAD losses but I think they get on a roll starting tonight .. GL with your play ..Comment -
