    There Is Something About Baseball
That just makes it different. Is it 7 months long? Yeah. But that doesn't necessarily matter.

The smell of the ballpark, the sun on your face, the intensity of a moment as it builds.

Your team down 3 heading into the ninth, a leadoff double, a fly ball out, a walk, a single.

    Men on second and third.

A strike out. An intentional walk to load the bases. A pitching change because the righty at the plate can't hit sliders away and the opposing manager is playing the percentages.

    Strike one, high and tight.

    A ball high.

    Another ball.

Two pitches low and away, fouled off.

3-2 two out and the runners go.

The batter lays into one and the home crowd comes to their feet. Everything stops for 5 seconds. It's got a chance. You don't think about your bitching wife, your debt, the way your father treated you. Even the beer guy turns around and watches the ball flying towards the left field pole. The crowd gasps as the ball flies right past the foul pole. Everyone turns to the ump and looks for the call. He raises his arm and swings his finger around with excitement.

That's it. It's bedlam. Everyone is screaming. At the game, in the bar, at their TV, doesn't matter.

For one moment, at one particular time, there are no races, or religions, there are no worries, or troubles. There are just a bunch of people cheering for guy in a suit who swung his arms and hit a ball when it mattered.

So who's ready for some baseball?

I agree that some other sports can be more exciting to watch on television.

But baseball has always been there you know, through the years. People mark time by it. There is nothing like the feeling of being at the game and hearing the sound of the bat on the ball, or a head first slide into second, a play at the plate where the ball screams into the leather of the glove as the catcher dives for the out.

Not saying that baseball is better or worse, but it marks the coming of spring and the end of a summer. And for those of us who experience seasons this way, that alone makes it unique.

Can't wait for baseball and betting some random Oakland or San Diego UNDER in the late game and having the windows open, sipping some beers.

Is there anything better than matinee games in Chicago midweek?

No, nothing better. But I have to wonder if it has negatively affected the Cubs. I wouldn't trade it as a fan though, it's great.

What position did you play Nash?

I was starting shortstop and batted 2nd and 3rd for about 8 years. Never saw any real action though, as far as college, grew my hair and started listening to Pink Floyd a bit too much.

                                        It was kinda like this:

And I actually owned a '71 Chevy Nova. No joke.

I was on the St. John's team that went to College WS.
I was the backup catcher, and a right handed hitting pinch hitter.
I was in the lineup against lefty starters, but mainly rode the bench.

                                                Well the Cubs suck.

But baseball is awesome. Don't even enjoy "the game" so much, just enjoy betting on it more than any other sport. It has its moments where I want to pull my hair out, but by the end of the season, it always treats me well.

                                                Go Braves.

My favorite player of all time was Sandberg, Cubbies had the Padres by the balls in '84, on their way to the WS, might have given the Tigers a tussle in that '84 WS, but nooooooooooo, Durham had to pull a Buckner at first base.
