Chargers - One Lousy Pick in First Four Rounds!
Because AJ Smith, the master of the draft, blew it last year, finally.

He used his 1st rounder last year for a very average WR (Davis, who even the NFL report said had alligator arms.)

He overpaid for Vetter, the free safety from Utah. He may turn out to be very good, but if AJ thought so he should have taken him in the first round rather than Davis, and not have given away the store in this years 2nd to 4th rounds.

A story yesterday in the daily blah quouted AJ as saying he was proud of draft picks like Vetter and trades like the WR from Miami. It was all worth it he said.

But wisely, Smith did not say he was proud of taking Davis in Round one last year. You blew it there, guy.

San Diego needs an offensive tackle, a back-up RB,and probably a DE, since the one who abuses steroids is always injured.

Some "experts" think they need a CB, but with two good ones that's a reach. Maybe they can get one in Round 7?

If Otah, the OT from Pitt is still there when they pick near the bottom of Rd One, they may grab him. Or,one of the good RBs still available, like the one from Texas.

Or, they may well trade down to get picks in the 2nd thru 4th.

I'm not a big fan of S.D., so I don't know their needs real well... but don't they give up some big plays in the passing game? And I'm not thinking starting CB's (they're definitely good), but wondering more about safety coverage? Or even nickel back (which is almost a starter in today's NFL)? Are those legit weaknesses in their game?
