The deal with the calander is that at that time it will signify a new era and the "end" of an old one... I believe something will happen to bring in a new era... It won't be anything like the world ending or anything MAJOR in that sense...

I'm not sure the Mayans meant that the world would end. Some think that some sort of historical transformation is going to take place. Human beings moving up to the next plane, perhaps. The Mayans believed that this date marked the transition from the current Creation world into the next. There are several very important cycles that all come full circle in 2012. The 26,000 year cycle, the 225 million Galactic Year cycle. In this year also there is an alignment of our solar system with the Galactic center.
