    Who has home alarm system?
Whats up guys, buying our first home in a good area and was just considering an alarm system. I remember my older brother having one when I was a kid and it would go off at bad times and couldn't stop it so it was kinda a pain in ass.

Anyone on here use one, and which service do you use? Saw something for brinks at about $30 a month. JJ's gotta have a system in that sweet as house of his.

Dont waste your money. I work in the industry and know it inside out and backwards, and trust me, the best thing to do is get a big, mean dog if you feel you need protection.
Its not worth the money or the problems you will have.
      Get a dog.

Just put up ADT stickers on some doors/windows.

It works just as well as an alarm system.

Actually, I have a home alarm system and never have had an issue with it. Yes, a mean dog probably would be better, but currently we have two cats so that's not much of a deterrent. I tell you want though, I used to keep around ten thousand in my house at a time and it sure was a load off my mind when I got the home alarm system.

I no longer have that kind of money in the house, but the alarm system is still nice. Our local cable company monitors my house and they are fast if there ever is a problem. I once was changing the batteries in the remote and accidentally triggered the panic button. I instantly turned off the alarm and called the alarm company, they had already called the police and they were on the way. Don't mess with the panic button.

                Lol what camera can do

All you do to bust up an alarm system is find out where the box is and bust the up box and the alarm does not go off , also cut phone lines going to poles.

The only problem with this is the alarm company will call you to find out what the problem is. If they don't get a response they will dispatch a unit to check it out.

Its not quite that easy JJ. The alarm companies have ways now of detecting line cuts as soon as they happen.
The problem with alarm systems is not the alarm system, it is the RESPONSE TIME to the alarm by private guards or police.
You will be lucky to have someone arrive within 45 minutes.

My alarm panel is inside my house hidden in a closet. Trust me, before you found the closet you would be dead.

Well JJ, like I said, my panel is hidden in a closet. I'm just wondering why bother busting up the panel if you're already in the house?

Besides, the alarm is going to go off as soon as you make entry.

If your not home the burglar usually has at least 1 minute to find panel and disable it.

As soon as the door or window opens that alarm goes off. It is very loud. No burglar is going to run around the house looking for the panel with that alarm going off. Trust me, burglars don't want attention. Plus, I have a pretty big 2-story house so it might take him more than a minute to find it. But I get what you're saying JJ.

If somebody really wants to steal your stuff they are going to get it.

Texas Fan I know no one's alarm that goes off when they are not home instantly, they usually disable alarm with code once they enter and have at least 45 seconds to do this, if not tons of alarms would always be ringing and that is not the case.

Son I am an expert on this subject, do you want to bet me 10 Dimes I can disable your alarm if your not home without it going off??

Sorry JJ, there's only one door and no windows that can be opened on my house without the alarm immediately going off. I also know that I have quite a bit more experience than you do in regards to this subject.

Like I said, if someone wants to break into your house, or steal your car, they are going to do so. There is no alarm system that is 100% fool proof.

I have a system in place at my parents house. One person attempted to break in about 7 years ago... It was when they were gone, it was some some coked out kid from some rich fooker that was looking for shit to sell... he busted out the window didnt' know he triggered the alarm, I put it to silence (but active) and told him to sit on the couch with a gun in my hand.

The only thing the alarm needs to is wake you up if someone is coming in. So for me thats 20 seconds tops to get my gun and load it. normally more like 10 depends on how groggy hungover I am.

Should have seen that kid though. I told that kid if he moved I was going to shoot his kneecap and he wouldn't be able to walk again. Kid about shit a brick.

Anyways, eventually my dad stopped paying for it because it just got to be too expensive, they kept raising rates once it was installed for monitoring it.

This thread makes me want to buy a gun again. Wonder if I can even do that legally anymore?

Son all I need to do really is find your power source on the power line and I am in, of course you need to know how to shut power but I can do it.
I didn't say it couldn't be done JJ. In fact, I stated that in at least two posts. Again, most car thieves and burglars are going to try and avoid alarms or anything that might bring attention to what they are doing. Like I also previously stated, anyone coming into my house uninvited will be carried out in a black bag. I would have absolutely no problem killing someone who broke into my house.

JJ, I have been in law enforcement for 16 years now. I have plenty experience in crime prevention and I know how to protect my family and property.

Yeah I have an alarm. A nasty Shar Pei that will tear your nuts off. Will bark a sh1t storm if you walk by the property. Total cost $1,200.00. Lifespan 9 years. Less than $100 a year for a killer and a best friend. ADT for a decade....$3,500.00

AR-15, Smith & Wesson .380 for travel, Sig Sauer 9mm for the house and car. Tactical/defensive shooting lessons at local gun club by ex-cops. Priceless.

Burglers (AKA as Cowards) will only enter your home when your hard @ work. The last thing they want is for you to be HOME while they steal all your stuff.

Home Invasions only happen if your involved in drug dealing. By the time police get contacted by the security company the cowards are long gone.

Keep your radio/TV on all day or buy a loud dog and you'll be better off.

Most home alarms, like mine, have a battery in case the power goes out. So once you cut the power, the alarm system is still armed and will go off if triggered. Plus once the system goes under battery power the provider will call wanting to know if everything is okay. Mine calls my cell phone. Plus, many systems are remote controlled and thus you can instant arm them so there is no lag time like the old systems that gave you a minute or so to enter a code for deactivation.
