Sams Town is not a bad spot. I spent quite a bit of time there when I was in Vegas.
Is the Riviera the best place to stay while in Vegas?

#39Boyd (the parent company of Coast Casinos) was building Echelon AKA Echelon Place where the Stardust and Westward Ho used to stand, but they suspended construction after the economy went down the toilet. The building's skeleton has been sitting untouched and rusting for over 2 years.Comment -

#404 places to avoid on the strip - Riveria, Circus Circus, Stratosphere, Sahara - Far North end of the strip is bad. Stay in the middle or South endComment -

#43As subjective as this is, I would say the best bang for your buck would be either the Nugget or The Orleans.Comment -

#44I have stayed there and i would not recommend, same with imperial palace-kind of a joke. riveria isnt even that great of a location, I would rather stay at the hard rock or the palms and those aren't even on the strip but it doesn't matter because you will never have to leave they are so fun. The ultimate best places would be the venetician or caesars palace, but thats if you are going all out because they are expensive, but worth it-best location and quality!Comment -

earliest they will start any work at that site again is 2014. was a stupid concept from the get go. trying to build a 5 billion dollar complex next to circus circus. the decent part of the strip ends at wynn. the north end is the dump. strip needs the dump properties to accomodate people looking for a $20 room and $5 dinner and knock back some drinks while dumping a few hundred through the penny slots.Comment -

#47I think the Mirage is a great bargin too. You might have to sign up for their email specials but I stayed there a few months ago and got a strip view room and a $50 buffet credit for about $90.Comment -

#51I stayed at the Riv in 2000 hated it.I love the Southpoint nothing fancy clean rooms decent casino nice movie theatre couple of good places to eat.Hated the Mexican food joint. The cafe was really good food very surprised how a cafe had such good food.It is far from the strip but i usually rent a car so it is not a problem for me.Comment -

#52I actually like the sports book at the Riviera. During March Madness you can actually get bets in without standing in line for 20 minutes. Also, I like the Leroy's books cause they have those machines. Decent prices for pitchers of beer in the sportsbook bar too.
Other than that, the Riviera and Sahara are horrible. Rooms remind me of Buffalo Bills' in Primm Valley.Comment -

#53I liked the Golden Nugget also. Downtown gives you more of that "Old Vegas" feel. Gambling and drinking, and not as much of the retail stuff.Comment -
