Had nothin to do with the teams, gold

Has everything to do with more people betting on the game. More and more new sportsbettors every year.

It didn't matter if the super bowl this year was ravens vs falcons, still would've broke records

The numbers they come up with are so arbritary. There is no way, especially in an event like the superbowl, that an accurate number can be said. How does Neisen know if you have 50 people at your SB party or its just you watching?

Two of the most followed teams in the NFL in a close game, I can see why.

              very dumb post.

of course the teams have something 2 do with it. This game was hyped up and people wanted see favre's predecessor vs the rapist.

chiefs vs seahawks wouldn't have gotten nearly the same amount of views

yes u are wrong, without wagering, ratings would be down for every sporting event. I welcome ur explanation if u even have one.

Of course ratings would be down without sports betting. That's different than saying that the ratings don't depend on which teams are playing.

Dumb post right back at you. Sports wagering is s big as its ever been. The super bowl is the big game, many will watch even its its the chiefs vs Seahawks. Its practically a national holiday now people will watch just for commercials
What else is on TV to watch on SB Sunday? Add millions of sportsbettors and boom its a ratings bonanza. Super bowl is most wagered event in all of sports. Ratings would be down for almost all sports if not for offshore and vegas

betting handle was big this year, but I think fantasy football has had a bigger impact on ratings over the years. Even in Super Bowl, without a fantasy game, people know more players and are more interested in football because of it

I forgot all about fantasy football Ty for reminding me. Fantasy football doesn't care what teams are playing. Fantasy players and bettors will watch regardless of chiefs vs falcons or two big name teams, same as bettors. Lets not forget about all them SB office pools as well. Gambling, whether money is involved or not will keep ratings sky high

I guess I should be asking this. If there were no offshore or Vegas sportsbooks and no fantasy football. Would this SB still have that high a rating. I would say no

You're making the case that things like fantasy football and sports betting have an affect on ratings, but nobody disagreed with you about that. What people had a problem with is your claim that the two teams playing have zero impact on the ratings:

fantasy football means nothing at this point of the season, seasons are and have been over. books are a huge factor tho, that i will agree with

It was a good Superbowl, but not even close to the Pat vs Giants or Cards vs Steelers. Not sure how it would outshine those two. Probably due to the US unemployment issues, where less people are working Sunday's now!

Books are the huge factor. But I don't think teams matter. Regardless who plays ppl are going to watch the superbowl.

Both are national teams more than local teams

Jets and Giants are local fan based teams only

The Super Bowl is now considered an unofficial holiday with marketing by the league and sponsors for parties etc....this year broke last years record, not just for Super Bowls but for most watched programming ever in the U.S.

It will likely be broken again next year whoever is in the game.

Not surprising, huge fan bases for both teams.
