ncstate, i think you would have been good friends with my father as you both seem to have that talent of making others feel sorry for you. My father would not show up to work for weeks but never get fired as he made "friends" at the job. I found out they used to call him lumpy and felt sorry for him. He also bought a vintage car from a worker and the guy did not even want money up front, just small payments per month. Well, it took him years to make one payment and that guy always used to call and hassle my mother. I had friends who used to call me and ask when my father would pay them back their money. the list could go on for hours... i just wish i had his talent. And do not even get me started when he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure (his own damn fault). when i had to take him places he would tell any of his condition that actually listened. He really milked that one. He leeched his entire life and wouldn't you know it, his rich aunt died and left him millions.

Right now though I know a "friend" who belongs to this secret club. I'm learning his secrets as we speak. So far I know this:

1. you have to say you are a recovering alcoholic but actually never have a problem

2. have an ugly wife that divorced YOU

So far that is all i got but i'm learning. I helped this guy move and seen some people helping me I did not know. I asked him who are they. His answer? "do not know, just met them"

Oh, and if any one is still reading this... these type of guys are worse than bums. You think a bum is ungrateful? oh hell no. But I am some what envious of how these people can do this. Not sure when I master this skill from my "friend" if i will use it or not.

I hope you don't think I am not aware of con men. I certainly am I have heard many sob stories in my life. And I have been taken many times for a great deal of money. I can tell you stories that you would not believe but that is ancient history.

But guy we are talking here about what 10 bucks at most. Most of us piss that much money away in a couple of days on coffee or cigs or whatever. If I can make somebody happy for such a small amount well I will do it every time. If I had to chose between being taken advantage of or doing a small kindness I will take the small kindness every time. You never know how that kindness might help or change a person or allow him to pass it on to someone else. This doesn't make me a great humanitarian just a human being.
