Used to stop in at the off-track with Dad occasionally when I was eight or thereabouts. Occasionally i'd get him to whack a buck each way on something with a cool name for me. One time when I was 11 or so my friend and I went to a nearby racetrack by ourselves and convinced one of the regs to put some bets on for us. I never had a chance. ;-)

March Madness pools in school when I was a kid, we use to charge every kid 10 bucks, put a bracket in. We did that from 6th grade up to 12th grade, now we go to vegas every year for the tourney

Horses. My dad would take me to the track when I was 8 years old and we would gamble on horses all day.

Harness racing . . . 30 years ago . . . had $5 across the board on a 22-to-1 shot that won. I don't even remember making another bet that night, and certainly I don't recall what I did with my winnings, but I probably thought to myself, Wow, this is easy.

                    Ha!

Bet on a lot of things as a kid with my kid buddies. But my first adult bet, though I was still several years removed from doing this legally, that I remember so clearly was in the fall of 1964 at the Tampa Dog track. I bet $2 to win on a 6 to 1 dog named Kansas Misty. It won. I was 17 and remember a fantastic warm feeling as I cashed the ticket.

Hooked would be an understatement. I have responsibility progressed from there over the last 47 years and loved almost every minute of it.

Used to putt against my dad for .10 cents a stroke on a practice putting green he made in our back yard.We would play in the evening and he would always have a baseball game on the radio he had bet.If I won 50 cents or so, I would sometimes buy a piece of his baseball action. We would settle every time it got to 1 dollar.
Back in the 60s when a buck could do some damage.
