BETTING RECAPS:
SUPERBOWL XLI
SUPERBOWL XLI
- Peyton Manning finally proved himself a champion, moving the favored Colts through the first rainy Super Bowl field to a 29-17 win over the Chicago Bears.
- The Colts had been favored by 6.5 points and easily covered the spread while betting the UNDER 47.5 proved to reward.
- It was the first Super Bowl to kick off with a KO return for a touchdown.
- It was the franchise's first Super Bowl since 1970 when the Colts resided in Baltimore.
- Overall the UNDER play saved the day for sportsbooks, who saw more betting action on the victorious Colts.
- MVP: Peyton Manning
Super Bowl XLII
- New York upset the 18-0 New England Patriots 17-14, winning outright as 12.5-point underdogs.
- Manning led the Giants on an improbable 12-play, 83-yard scoring drive, capped by Plaxico Burress's TD grab in the final minute.
- So much money had poured in on the Giants - much of it on the moneyline at upwards of +300 - that it was a deadly day for sportsbooks when the Giants won.
- Tom Brady and the record-setting Pats had come to Glendale Arizona for Super Bowl XLII with an unbeaten season under their belts. But the Giants came in riding a 10-game road winning streak and had been covering road spreads all season.
- The Giants became the only NFC Wild Card team to win a Super Bowl (four AFC Wild Cards have turned the trick, most recently the Steelers).
- MVP: Eli Manning
Super Bowl XLIII
- The Pittsburgh Steelers won their second Super Bowl in four years by beating the Arizona Cardinals 27-24.
- The Steelers became the first team in NFL history to win six Super Bowls.
- Even though they won the Super Bowl, the Pittsburgh Steelers failed to cover against the -7 spread.
- In the end it was the Arizona Cardinals and the OVER 47 that won for the bettors
- MVP: Santonio Holmes
Super Bowl XLIV
- Super Bowl 44 was generally pretty good for most books. With the public favoring the Colts and the OVER.
- New Orleans beat Indianapolis 31-17 outright, while the combined score went UNDER the posted total of 57.5 points.
- However for a few high-volume books taking professional action, it was a different story. After hitting the Colts initially on opening, the sharp action strongly favored the Saints mid-week through game day, and there was reportedly a lot of non-sharp "whale" action looking to get down on the Saints as well.
- BookMaker accepted a number of big bets well above their guaranteed limit, all on the Saints, and admitted they lost on the game when the Saints got the double-digit win.
- A number of prop bets cashed in for bettors including Drew Brees +300 to win the MVP Award, Pierre Garcon +1000 to score the first touchdown, Saints to win by 13-16 points +1800, and 32 Bree’s Completions at +2000.
