Technically, they are crumbled old bread. Just pick up a canister of Progresso breadcrumbs (I prefer the Italian Style) and you'll be good. Recipe's say add 1 cup, but I just add a little then work everything together then add more if it's still too wet of a mixture. You want it to hold but not be overwhelmed with breadcrumbs.

Take a picture when it's done!

A man should know how to take care of himself. A man should know how to hunt, fish, cook, garden, sew, etc. A man should be self-reliant.

nickell, what have you been making lately? After you learn the basics of making a meal, you'll have to start making your own sauces. The difference between jar sauce and homemade is night and day. To start, just learn how to make a couple different red sauces, a cheese sauce, marsala sauce, gravy and jus. With those, you can go anywhere.

I make a great potato salad.
                                  4 potatoes
                                  2 eggs
                                  mayonnaise
                                  mustard(optional)

Boil 4 potatoes whole in a pan of water with 1 spoon salt for 1 hour, drain and peel potatoes(Peelings fall off easy).
Boil 2 eggs in pan of water with 1 spoon of salt for half an hour, peel eggs.

Chop cooked eggs into nice small pieces, chop cooked potatoes into nice small pieces.
Stir into a bowl the cooked chopped eggs and cooked chopped potatoes, and add three tablespoons mayo, stir, and taste. Add more mayo, mustard, salt, and pepper until it cannot taste any better.

Tastes good warm or refrigerated overnight.

I like to take 1 ounce of Yay. Add a teaspoon of baking soda. Then about a cup of water. Put it in a pan. Make it boil, but flatten the bubbles. Once it turns all white, put it on a paper towel and drain. Then freeze.
After an hour or so in the freezer, remove. Then sell. Then find a big shoe box for all the money.

One of my favorites is chicken tacos. Also dig chile rellenos, steak, about any seafood, blue cheese salads, and nacho's. All relatively easy to do at home with a few basics and the willingness to spend a little time making your meal.

I firmly believe that all men should know how to cook. If you are single it is extremely helpful with the girls. Screw taking them to a restaraunt and a random activity then trying to get them to go back to your place or let you go to theirs. Just make a good meal with a few good options to show your talents and be sure to bust out the wine. If you are dating, engaged, or married it is a great activity to do together. You will get to know each others likes and dislikes in food and be able to find an at home menu you both enjoy.

Also one of my favorite TV chefs is Alton Brown of "Good Eats". He has many great recipes and is thorough with his instructions.

If you like chicken give this a try. A variation on a recipe at allrecipes.com. 2 chicken breast, lightly coated in mayo then rolled in italian breadcrumbs. Filet and stuff with a layer of fresh mozarella. Bake in the oven for 30 min at 425.

We have many different kinds of diets contributing to our palate so there really is no definitive type of American style of food. Everything we have usually came from a different culture and has been adapted to our taste which admittedly has taken a turn for the worse due to our fast food way of life. If you go to independent ethnic style restaurants, two of my favorites are Thai and Mexican, you will get a more authentic style of food. Adaptation of food can be both good and bad. There is plenty of creativity and flavor profiles but everyone decends from immigrants in the states so our only unique style of food would be Native American.
