This weekend was rough boys, I was up about 1,600 on Bet Phoenix and lost it all plus another 800 to my bookie from all the playoff football upsets, on top of that I went to AC and dumped a good 500 playing blackjack and lost 2 poker tournaments, that's doesn't sound like a lot to some but it was all the money I had and the icing on the cake. The last 7 years I've been gambling I have probably lost six figures which is all I have made and more, I'm not a winning gambler in any way and destroying my marriage and starting to get me in real trouble as I owe 3 different bookies. I'm not saying I'm done for life or I'm leaving SBR but right now gambling in any fashion has lost all it's allure and it's making me physically sick.

#2Sorry to hear this bud. You always come across as fair and respectable of others and have some ACTUAL GOOD insight on games, and dont just troll here out of boredom.
Maybe start using a poker Bankroll Theory of cashing out and building up over and over, so as to avoid losing your winnings.Comment -

#3cobalt, sound pretty rough. very tough to stay away from this stuff, but sometimes you have simply got to test your will power. just do it man. take break, save some money and go on a weekend getaway with your wife to clear your soul. it will help. don't come back without money management being your only focus. #4Sorry to hear this. I just hope that you stay true to your word and at least quit until you have 'money to lose'. I don't think gambling is a problem if you are losing money you can afford to be without. The problem starts when you are losing money that you cannot afford to be without.
Hope everything turns around for you.Comment -

#7Cobalt, sorry to hear buddy! We've all been there.
I would back away all together for a while. Don't bet small, because if you go on a prolonged hot streak, you'll be upset you weren't betting normal amounts, and feel you wasted efforts for peanuts.
There will always be the option to gamble, it's not going away. So get away, and come back when you feel up for it again, and your finances are in line.Comment -

#10You probably need a rest my friend. Take a few months off. Then come back betting small. You'll be able to do that after the time off. Hard to cut your bet size for you right now, however as you are in perpetual chase mode.
Kind of like pain pills. Tolerance causes you to need to bet bigger and bigger to get the same rush or relief. Take a vacation and not only will you come back fresh and start winning, but you'll be able to find a degree of satisfaction betting far less per game.
This is my best advice to you sir. Good Luck.Comment -

#14I may also be done with online gambling.
I can't fund my 5 dimes account anymore with my credit cards.
I funded Bodog yesterday, and forgot how much their lines/options suck there. I can't buy down from 3.5 to 2.5 on their site, which I'm used to being able to do on 5 Dimes.
Tried DSI, and in order to deposit with a credit card there, I first need to call ** and do a deposit through them on the phone. After talking to ** on the phone for 15 minutes, and being able to understand about 4 words that the lady was saying I decided to hang up.
Betjamaica doesn't take VC Cards.
Looks like I'm back to the Local.Comment -

#16Cobalt, sad to hear about your problems, but the positive is that you do realize yourself that you have this problem and that you understand that you need to stop totally or at least be very careful in the future not to affect your kids with this. SBR is a nice forum, and I understand why you want to keep hanging around here, but just have in mind that it will often be a trigger to start the gambling again when you visit these boards.
If you do decide to continue again after a break, I really hope that you think about it five or ten times before you do. And make sure you know the real reason why you want to be into sportsbetting. Just be honest with yourself, if you do it for the entertainment thats ok, but just bet really small amounts (and STICK to it!), and enjoy yourself. If you do it because you want to get rich, or your goal is to earn a little on the side, you need to plan a much better tactic than you have done so far. Make sure you keep detailed records of each and every play you make, follow strick money management, and if you suddenly start playing larger amounts than planned on some games, play extra games just because you have "a good feel" about the game, you need to TRACK those plays also! To be sure you are aware that you are breaking your own rules, and you will never reach that goal of earning money long term if you do that again.
I wish you all the best, take care of your family, they are so much more important to your life than sports and gambling!Comment -

#17I got my old job back that I had most of last year, I start today at 9 am. I haven't gambled in any way in a week and I spent the week just enjoying my family getting back to drawing and playing music, watched some good flicks instead of playoff football. Its been once to have a life outside of checking scores and making plays.Comment -

Set a date far off and don't start back before then for anything, especially during bad times. Start funding for the kids college, don't gamble on that.
