Boise State (10-5) at Hawaii (9-6) Saturday, January 08, 2011
Latest Line: Boise St -3.5
FACTS & STATS: Site: Stan Sheriff Center (10,300) -- Honolulu, Hawaii.Television: None. Home Record: BSU 6-1, Hawaii 8-2. Away Record: BSU 4-4, Hawaii 0-3. Neutral Record: BSU 0-0, Hawaii 1-1. Conference Record: BSU 3-0, Hawaii 0-3. Series Record: Boise State leads, 10-9.GAME NOTES: Two teams at opposite ends of the Western Athletic Conference standings meet at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu tonight, as the Boise State Broncos pay a visit to the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors. The Broncos land on the islands riding a three-game win streak and having claimed four of the last five outings, but it hasn't been easy. On Thursday night, Boise State was pushed beyond normal limits and had to go to four overtime periods for the first time ever before hanging on for the 102-101 win against San Jose State. The victory pushed BSU to a perfect 3-0 in conference play, which is the exact opposite of the Warriors right now.Hawaii, which began the season with five straight wins at home, has hit a dry spell of late and has been taken down in three consecutive outings. Two nights ago, the program reached a new low with a mere 44 points as the visiting Idaho Vandals captured a 15-point win. As a result of that setback, the Warriors are now 0-3 in conference, the first time that's happened since 2000-01.BSU owns a 10-9 advantage in the all-time series after the teams split a pair of contests during the 2009-10 campaign. Each team won at home as the Warriors captured a 76-68 victory in Honolulu, while the Broncos held serve at Taco Bell Arena with an 82-63 triumph.A pair of free throws by La'Shard Anderson with 35 seconds remaining in the fourth overtime period proved to be the difference as the Broncos held on for the one-point win against San Jose State on Thursday night at the Event Center. One of five players to finish in double figures, Anderson tallied a career-high 31 points as he sank 12-of-15 at the charity stripe, adding six rebounds, five assists and four steals along the way as well. Paul Noonan posted 20 points and nine boards, Robert Arnold 16 points and nine rebounds, followed by Tre Nichols and Daequon Montreal with 14 and 10 points, respectively, as BSU made 31-of-45 trips to the stripe. Averaging almost 34 minutes per game now, Arnold leads the program in scoring with 15.6 ppg, followed by Anderson with his 14.7 ppg to go along with a team-high 79 assists through 15 games. Slowly getting back into the swing of things, Noonan is responsible for 11.0 ppg as the team generates a solid 76.9 ppg.The Warriors were completely off their game on Thursday night when they shot a season-low 29 percent from the floor and experienced their lowest scoring output since putting up a mere 37 points against Oklahoma State back in 1998.Hawaii failed to sport a single double-digit scorer in the outing, with Hiram Thompson coming the closest with his nine points on 3-of-10 shooting from the field. The squad, which hit a mere 3-of-22 beyond the arc, finished with as many turnovers (15) as it did made field goals. In three conference games the Warriors are averaging a paltry 59.7 ppg as they shoot just 30 percent out on the perimeter. But the bigger problem in those matchups came on the glass where the opposition beat Hawaii by an average of 11 rpg. Vander Joaquim (12.0 ppg) has given the Warriors their best option on the glass in those three games, the big man pulling down 7.7 rpg in a absence of Bill Amis.Obviously the Broncos can score points when pushed a bit, the question is whether or not the defense can make the trip to the islands as well and show up in a timely manner tonight.

#22I had Hawaii as a team to play as undervalued to start year b/c they were so poor ats last year.
I bit the bullet the other night, but early in year they were cash. Hawaii was off continental trip as well v. Idaho. Any other reason why they were so bad the other night? I think gotta take rainbows here.Comment -

#35My initial thought was Boise -4 so I did the right thing and took Hawaii +4.
I've been getting killed to day but I'm trying to mount a comeback after my Marshall and Notre Dame wins.
Small play on Hawaii.Comment
