I'm using 7.5 and quite happy. I only upgrade when they cut off support for the current version I'm using.

AVG is one of too many AV packages that should not be used due to very weak protection those packages provide.

Avira Antivir, http://www.free-av.com/, is free and is currently the best. There is also a paid-for Premium version but it has the same detection engine as the free version while the enhancements can hardly justify the purchase for a personal use.

thats what i had, the avira, then my computer just messed up last week and i took it for service, and they said they had to sweep my hard drive and re-install windows, they did all that and put this free 30 day thing on here for AVG, them fockers also unplugged one of my DVD drives, i had to open the computer and plug it back in, and i'm royally pissed about all my music, my files were still there, but my media player was empty, so when i imported the music back onto the media player, now every song i try to play it automatically takes me to microsofts website and says i need to get the license for the music. last time i take my computer to those fockers.
i'm thinking of taking this AVG thing off here, and installing Avira again, and re-installing my Comodo firewall again.

I've used AVG for years now and am pleased with the overall performance. I bought the full version for the house about a year ago and haven't had a bit of trouble, blocks crap damn well as far as I'm concerned and doesn't have any conflicts with the added spam/virus stuff my local ISP provides on top of it all.

They are one company I'd probably give my money if I desired to purchase a license, however, the free AV fulfills my needs for the time being. To be honest though, if I were deadset on purchasing a license I may give a look to ESET'S NOD32 first. $55/1 yr, but one incredible AV.... Anytime I reformat i install its free trial until it expires.

It is all a matter of opinion with these programs and what works with your set up.
