What do you wear to a job interview?

A suit or dress shirt would be too weird I'm assuming?

Do you just wear gym clothes?

    That doesn't seem appropriate either.

Also, any pointers on what they would be looking for? or how to get hired easily?

I'll fukking take anything. I want to be either a personal trainer or the receptionist in front.

I'll be happy with just putting away weights or closing the place also. This is just part-time while I finish school.

Suit and tie to every interview. You can dress down once you become comfortable with the enviornment, but you can't dress up once your in the interview. I see gym salesmen and equipment professionals in suits all the time, not out of place at all.

I'm still not certified but have been freelance training people for 2 years now. I've been training myself for 10 years and have more experience than a lot of these 'certified bums'. I know about diet, the glycemic index, fats, proteins, carbs, etc... when to eat each, according to your goals, whether it's weight loss, bodybuilding, or powerlifting.

I also know about supplementation, what the different vitamins do, creatine, nitric oxide, whey protein etc...

I swear, I know more about this stuff than anyone I've ever met in person. I'm always the most knowledgeable at every gym I go to.

I've heard to wear in the interview what you'd be expected to wear at the job. So if it's an office job, wear what you would wear to the office, a suit or nice shirt. If it's a casual job, then wear the casual clothing. That's why I'm conflicted with this one, as wearing gym clothes there may be out of place

slacks and a golf shirt wouldn't be too formal or out of place.

This may even be the LEAST of my problems.

The guy on the phone who is going to interview me REFUSED to speak English to me. So I assume the whole interview will be in French, which I'm only about 60% good at.

First thing to do is find an advertisement for a job offering at a gym. It doesn't matter how you are dressed. If they are not hiring you will embarrass yourself start walking into random gyms asking if they are hiring receptionists or personal trainers.

disagree 100 percent,, do not where a shirt and tie to a gym interview, where the dress shirt or a dressy type shirt, but no tie

Mom gym receptionists are women and volunteers. Anyone can be a certified trainer. Who certifies the certifier and who certifies them? Noone

I worked in gyms for about four years. Personally I would wear a shirt and tie but no jacket. It shows respect and isn't too casual.

Suit and tie would be what I'd recommend. First impression is key when you walk into the interview room. A lot of hiring managers doing the interviewing also look at the way one dresses as part of the person's character. So if you show up in casual clothes, some may think your not serious about the job whereas if you show up in a shirt and tie then it makes an entirely different statement. Once you've got the job, then your attire can change. Good luck.

To be honest it all depends on the person interviewing you , he might think you are a clown for wearing a suit to a gym job interview or might think you are not a serious person for not dressing up for an interview

Is it a chain or an independent local gym? It never hurts to wear a suit for any interview but, most of the time, you are fine with a polo shirt and khaki pants. Just make sure you are clean shaven and neat. Most gyms/health clubs are always looking for membership salesmen because there is such high turnover. If you have any sales experience or are at least interested in that make sure you tell them. Membership sales is the lifeblood of the business. You are probably gonna need your certification to be a trainer but I've seen many of them where you didn't.

I do want to get certified, but I need this job first to be able to afford that. Unless I win the money which is unlikely.

How do membership salesmen work? Do they work in the gym at all?

It's not a chain gym, it's a city gym, built by the borough. They have one main complex like this in every major borough. I am thinking to wear something similar to a clubbing outfit. I know that sounds bad, but it will be more conservative. I'll wear the dress shirt unbuttoned a bit and nice pants, but not dress pants.

There is no money in that field, very competitive also

                                                              Update:

It went well, they say for now it's a Yes and they will call me next week. I may still receive a letter if it's a No.

I may be in charge of the entire sports complex! not just the weight room! Fukking crazy! Nice place, indoor modern swimming pool, beautiful basketball court, bistro, multi-purpose rooms. I really hope i get it!
