As much as I despise Vick's actions the guy paid he debt to society. I give him credit for turning around his life. He does speak to a lot of groups in the South about what he did and how stupid it was. There are people who get off a lot easier for doing a lot less. Not saying that guy should be lauded but let's not punish him for recovering...

1. Obama called the Eagles owner and thanked his for giving Vick a second chance.
2. Obama has not yet called Best Friends animal rescue in Arizona where most of Vick's surviving dogs are being rehabilitated and thanked them for giving those dogs a second chance.
3. Vick has never called Best Friend himself to check and see how his dogs are doing, of they're gettting adopted, etc. Rehabilitated my ass.
4. Speakling to groups is a high-profile way to get people off your ass and pretend to be over what your did. Calling the rescue groups who are trying to save your dogs would be a very low-profile, but truly caring thing to do. He has only done the former.
5. While he was convicted on the gambling charges, the main issues were the Federal charges for interstate dogfighting. Vick also admitted to killing at least 4 of his dogs with his own hands.

Vick was 7-9 and 8-8 with the Falcons prior to jail. While he's having a good season, I don't suspect it will last.

Honestly I don't think this was political at all. In fact, his advisors probably warned him against saying something positive about Vick publicly. Dog owners every where still hate the guy and local sports fans probably aren't happy that the president is praising the man who trashed the Redskins on national TV. I think Obama had money on the Vikings and was trying to get in Vick's head making him feel like hot stuff

I seriously don't get the timing at all. Why wait until now to thank the Eagles owner? It would be one thing IF the Eagles won the superbowl and he made the call but they could lose first playoff game they play and no one will care how well Vick played this year.
