The problem is that you label it as a bad decision in the first place, and that if you just went the other way, your life would be perfect. While I do believe that certain small events or decisions can change your life drastically, I don't think it's possible to predict if that would lead to a more positive life than the 'bad' decision you made.

I made a decision last week to not cash out and then I went and lost everything. Looking back, I'd say it was a bad decision, but even if I did cash out, who's to say I'd have used that money for something useful.

If there was a girl you'd had a crush on for years, but never had the guts to go talk to her and now she's out of your life, you may also call that a bad decision, and wonder how perfect your life would be with her now. In reality, you have no way of knowing if your life would be better with that person or not.

Only when I wake up and a chicks on my arm that needs repair. I chew my arm off and leave...but can't stop thinking about how I got in the situation in the first place.

Just watched a 60 minutes episode concerning memory and emotions. Studies seem to suggest that when an action is reinforced with shocking negative emotions it is very easily recalled and seems to stay in the mind of the individual. Therefore, if you made some bad decisions that caused some embarassment or other negative feedback that memory is retained and is played over and over in your mind. The real consequence of the action may not really be as bad as your memory of it.
